I used to think so too, unfortunately it is not crazy, read this Operation Northwoods - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia it will change your view. This is not speculation it is terrifying fact.
Basically in 1962 the US cheifs of staff (heads of all armed forces) drew up this plan to commit acts of terror, killing innocent Americans and blame it on Cuba as justification for an invasion, it was approved by the secretary of defense but luckily JFK dissaproved and basically fired the chairman of the cheifs of staff for this. I posted this earlier but really think everyone should read this. If you dont believe wikipedia there are links on there to the declassified original document in the National Security Archive. I feel if its been done before it could happen again.

The U.S government doesn't need to kill innocent Americans to justify an invasion of Cuba, Grenada, Afganistan, or any other place.That is just stupid. They have the resources to justify whatever actions they want ( a.k.a.- weapons of mass destruction? by the way have you seen them; they seem to be missing). No our government does screw up but it doesn't plot to kill Americans to justify anything. By the way you do know that Wikipedia is not allowed as testimony in a U.S. court of law? I know, another plot!

Proposed, meaning let's throw a few ideas around no matter how stupid they sound
You can't just take what someone may have "said" and think that it's true or it was carried out. Many times I have told my kids that I was going to beat them until shortly before death. Did I ever do it? No but I should have;some of them deserved it. But if you were outside my house, wrote down what I said, and gave it to somone else it wouldn't look too good for me would it, even though I never touched them.
What would be the motivation behind the action against Cuba; to take over a small unimportant island.
If the plot was found out by others ( as is usually the case) who would be upset by it and what would there reaction be. ( in this case the U.S.S.R. who would not stand for it and would start a really big war with their nuke things)
Would beating the sh*t out of Cuba be worth the risk of a nuclear war or Russia picking on Germany in retaliation?
By in large you're reporting just talk that never happened. Maybe it was discussed but it was never taken seriously. Do you know how I know that? Because we all would have been dead by nuclear fallout 45 years ago. I take it you didn't grow up in the sixties. You really missed it!

I’m really not trying to fight but just make the point that our government, like our society, is probably 99 percent good people but we still need to watch out for that 1 percent. Everyone was afraid of nuclear war, like you said, which is partly why I think they devised this plan. Cuba WAS important, russian nukes there meant the US could be vaporized before the early warning system could fire up our missiles and retaliate; the Cuban missile crisis was the very year these actions were planned (62). The idea behind this was probably loose a few to save millions but I still think this isnt the kind of country we are. This may have been talk by desperate men in a desperate time but I still think they went too far and I dont like the idea that people would put this option on the table

You know that information like that is usually not declassified for 75 years after it happens. Mostly so any involved would be dead and whatever happened would be less on peoples minds by that point.
You must remember that all ideas should be put on the table. Not only can you then sort out the stupid ones, the wacky ones, etc, but you also know who made them and what their focus may be. General Curtis Lemay back in those days was willing to wipe out Cuba. He actually, without presidential authority raised the warning level of all our forces. The guy wanted war. Years later we Americans found him as the vice presidential candidate with Barry Goldwater. By letting him come out with his ideas, as wacky as they were, we knew what kind of a man he was and he lost in a landslide. No this is not to start a fight with you but merely to give you an insight of the other side of the story. This was something I lived through.
This is true and also because sometimes an idea that looks stupid on its face actually has merit two or three layers down (or up?) the thinking level.
The statement that "lowering corporate taxes increases net tax revenue" seems to be at odds with itself, and therefore stupid. But if you consider that lowering corporate taxes also increases jobs, which in turn leads to a larger pool from which taxes are taken, the idea seems to make more sense. Of course I'm not here to debate if in fact lowering corporate taxes increases jobs or actually increases the thickness of the big guy's pockets, but my point is that many times there are more things to an issue than is taken at face value.
Unfortunately in today's world, and more and more so among our youth, we don't consider these types of issues. We hear the one liners pushed by our media and trust them to be right instead of investigating and thinking for ourselves.
That's not entirely true, the Freedom Of Information Act has been used on many highly classified documents in the U.S Government's possession that are only 50 years old. That may seem like a while, but it's enough to the see the behavior of some critical departments in the U.S.
There is a book called "Legacy of Ashes" about the actions of the CIA after their formation in the late 40's and on into the 50's. Other then being largely incompetent, they also staged numerous actions against states and people that they believed were threats to their existence. They then lied about these actions to congress and the President. This made them an autonomous agency following their own agenda (which in some cases was not very American). None of this is speculation, you can read their own reports by their own operators and officers to verify this.
What is important to note is that the President is often one of the last people to know what's going on. There may be many agencies in the U.S. Government that call their own shots, and don't give a damn about the President, Congress nor the American People. Eventually I feel one of them may "make a move" on the U.S Government, all it takes is a crisis situation.
After every storm it's always the scum that floats to the top.

As things were going bad for them under Hitler they kept saying, "what more can they do?". Then when word was going around about the camps and extermination they couldn't believe it. It was too crazy. It made no sense. They could not understand how killing them off served any purpose. It was nutty rumors. Only when it was too late did they figure it out. Governments depend on this kind of thinking. I can think of another group who wants to take over that is relying on this kind of thinking as well. It can never happen here. It can never happen to us.
Things are done differently now. Not everything is accomplished militarily anymore. It is done slowly, changes happen over time so not to alarm people. When a change comes up some people step up and say this can lead to this or that and people say it is scare tactics. The patriot act took away a lot of rights and it happened. My father still doesn't believe a lot even though it is right there in black and white. He says, "they can't do that".

The Mrs. says the same thing, Misty. But yes they can take away people's rights. Just look at what is going on in Michigan and Wisconsin. It's called a tyranny of the minority.
I don't think we've even perceived how far down the rabbit hole we are. The U.S. has become a democracy in name only, huge segments of the population are so disillusioned (or apathetic) that they don't care to vote anymore. And the remainder have been split by an orchestrated media campaign to hate anyone who thinks for themselves. This is not the traditional form of U.S. democracy, we have been heavily manipulated, and it is unlikely to reverse.
Eventually, the middle class will be stripped of most of their wealth (which is simply the continuation of the transfer of wealth that's been going on for many years) and the U.S. will resemble your average 3rd world nation demographically.
And it's anyone's guess what will happen then. But one thing for sure, it won't be America anymore, and few of us will care.
When you raise taxes on buisness who do you think pays for it? If I ran a buisness and they raised my taxes do you think I'm going to take a hit in my wallet? Nope, I pass it along to the consumers as the cost of doing buisness. Therefore the average Joe takes it on the chin. If I had my taxes lowered, I might not pass the savings along to the consumer ( average Joe gets it again) but now that I have more money I might hire a few more guys to make my buisness bigger so that I as the owner can make more money. Get people to work!
Our childrens future and future generations does not look good at all they will know what it is to be a true slave with NO rights!
