Remember that with Katrina federal help was not given sooner due to the complete freeze up of the state's governor. She was like a dear frozen in the headlights. The federal govement couldn't bring in the types of aid required unless asked to do so by the governor of the state. That is law. Three days after the storm Bush met with her and all of the authorities oin Air Force One and asked the governor right to her face to give him the authority to send in what was needed. It took her another 36 to give the ok. Therefore 4 days went by with no help from the federal governmemt because of her thoughtless inaction.
A hell of a lot of people (including celebrities) said nothing was done because the people were black. I am not saying what you laid out here is wrong or that I think it was because they were black. I am simply saying popular opinion. I know that head guy at FEMA was fired and the media said it was because of his incompetence. I do remember that once whatever it was blocking aid was removed things were fixed very quickly. They got people out of there fast.
What upsets me the most is people chaining their dogs down so they drowned. Breaks my heart. At least those off chains could try and get on something like a roof or whatever. I feel sick thinking about it. Animals depend on us to keep them safe. Instead people chain them down to die a horrible death. Scum! :mad2:
Another memory I have from Katrina is a little black kid that took one of the major media stations around on a tour of the calamity. He was young and you could tell he had some brains. A cute kid too. He used a good amount of southern vernacular that amused me, made me smile. He impressed me. I hope he is well.
