Thanks Captain! Once I get the muscles I'll just need the sunglasses and a Jag. :pimpride8lr:
With the muscles, you won't need the Jag.

A dude? I'm not even a humanoid. I'm just an automaton set to endlessly bring forth humorous announcements and sub-par ramblings.

Well my english and IQ didn't quite meet up to that, so I have no idea what you're telling me.
And just to clarify, my comment above was sarcastic ^^

He's your great Uncle Benny. He says 'hi'. Well, 'rawr', but that means 'hi' right? I wonder what a T-rex trying to do weights would look like.

Quick question, roughly how much pain should someone be in after a workout? Should it be mildly sore or physically unable to lift again for a while?

Your muscles should be sore, not your joints. If you're joints hurt while you perform a certain movement, adjust the geometry of the movement. Do not work cables and dumbell at right angles. Visualize your movements in terms of arcs. Even a slight modifiation in wrist pronation will allow you to target specific areas with less strain to your joints. Try out multiple exercises for the specific muscle groups you want to target - your body WILL tell you what it will respond to best. Perform the exercises you feel you get the most benefit from. And.... don't jump from body part to body part in one session. Work on two per day(arms, shoulders, back, chest, abs, legs) and smash the sh*t out of them!
Also, you gotta eat alot of protein!

The Pain you are experiencing is commonly refered to as DOMS. Delayed Onset Muscle soreness (DOMS)

Generally Legs are more painful than other parts of the body.

I do not train the same body part more than twice a week. Legs only Once a Week!

After working out a lite Cardio session afterwards helps remove the Lactic Acid buildup in the muscles.

Also a Protein Drink if preferable to replenish the Muscles.

Lastly application of ICE afterwards helps with the inflammation of the Joints.
I have a set of Velcro Ice pads that I wrap my knees, elbows and sometimes shoulders that help a lot after a strenuous lifting session. Especially Legs!

Thanks for the input guys. I do recall someone talking about DOMs pains once but I assumed it was just someone called Dominic having a bad day. Ta very muchly for the advice! I need to get some whey protein in actually. My dad used to buy the stuff by the bucket full and he'd let me steal some sometimes after the small hand weights I usually do.

You can't gauge how hard you should work today by how bad you'll feel tomorrow. I can not remember what work-out you have settled on, but you should be able to lift all reps easily on your last set. You will be adequately sore the next few days.

If you struggle at all on your last set you will be screwed for the next 3-4 days. You should also consider cardio after your weights, the extra blood flow can aid in recovery.

Wow, how did I miss this thread? HTH you have gotten a lot of great help from the membership. First I got to say girl you are hot! If you are trying to improve on that hot bod, I guess you are looking for more definition. As the Mr. said I love weightlifting and have been doing it for years. I just started from scratch all over again 3 weeks ago after 15 months forced sabbatical due to surgery to repair the ulnar nerve and in three weeks I am back to lifting the weights I was lifting 15 months ago (actually Monday I lifted more). Hammer Time and Namso gave you what I consider the best advice for us ladies.

Here the question are you looking to look like a fitness model (You are almost there now) or like a smaller size body builder?
Is important to know what you are shooting for in terms of rep and weight. Like Namso said start small and move up but if you are looking for fitness model look (is what I shooting for) then you never do less than 13 to 15 reps and slowly move your weight up, it will give you the strength without the bulk.

If you are looking for bulk (like I prefer for my legs) then 6 to 8 reps and more weight. Just remember that any fitness program is only 30% of the equation, the other 70% in nutrition.

I used to model professionally back in the 80's and 90's when they wanted models to be Svelte and statuesque not anorexic. I did bodybuilding, ballet, and ran track and field to keep my shape and stay within contractual size. I always looked good and is the body I will have again with God's help this year.

Like you, I tend to be bottom heavy I am a Latina girl we have the market on hips, but my hips go down on size fairly quickly.
Make sure to add Yoga to your work out, it will help with flexibility, strength and will keep the bulkiness under control. I have promised myself I will add my pic to the hot girls thread this year (incognito of course). You on the other hand can add your now, you are already there.

Feel free to PM with any questions, otherwise lets keep each other accounted for while we work out. I did P90X Classic for 3 weeks and got my new program in P90X3, I just started it Monday, I love it so far, tough but doable. You are starting 5x5 In February so that is awesome. My program is 90 days, God providing I do not re-injure, I will be done April 19. I am shooting to get my goals met in two rounds of it, which will have me done by my Birthday in July. I am as excited as you seem to be. By the way the first She Hulk pics is awesome too! You can alternate them for Avatars.

I prefer the the female bodybuilder figure over all others(sans gear). Some guys think muscles on girls is not attractive, but for me, the visual cue represents health, happiness, ambition and commitment. These are core values I highly regard. There is a certain inner beauty also, that's hard to describe that female lifters posess. - I think HTH has a dynamite bod now. If she became a lifter, she'd be off the charts!

Land of Dorothy and Toto!

I'm back to weights,,,,,just a couple of weeks now at most. I feel my body going back to how it was in 2011/12, strong, solid(er) and just a tad trimmer. Weight is leaving VERY slowly, but I know that will happen in time. Getting back to strength and health is my #1 concern. Looks and ego are kinda in a dead heat for last,,,,,,but looks are winning!! ;-)

Hey ML4M! I love how supportive everyone is here. Thankyou for the compliment. I want to get stronger and I wouldn't mind some more upper body definition to balance out the lower a bit. Congratulations on the successful surgery. Your attitude towards your recovery is absolutely amazing and inspirational. I'm sure with that bloody awesome will power of yours you can achieve your goals.

I think I'd prefer the fitness model between the two. A few of the men in my family do body building and whilst they look great I don't think realistically I'd have the motivation to go for it; I also have intermittent periods of being self concious about my height, which is why I get a little nervous of bulk too. Thanks for the stellar advice. All of those ladies are lovely; I find the first one's body to be the most like what I'd want to go for. I definitely need to keep a stricter reign on diet once this term's assessments are over; I've been loading up on the complex carbs when cutting them mostly out usually helps when I'm exercising.

A stunning physicality as well as a hot as hell personality? I'm surprised the Mr has any energy left to post! ;D I've never been especially good at dance or sports although I used to be decent at hitting things with bats. Fingers crossed for you reaching where you want to be and breaking even more hearts. I'll keep an eye out in the thread and see if I can spot which is you! I wouldn't call myself hot but if there was a thread for well intentioned doofuses I'd be all over it!

Oooo, now you Latina ladies are the envy of wide hipped homies everywhere. Thankyou for the suggestion; I used to do yoga and I can't remember why I stopped. Though not especially athletic I'm quite good at contortion and I used to enjoy scaring my ex with him walking in on me tying myself in knots.

Thankyou! That sounds like a great plan. I've heard of that program; you're pretty hardcore! We could do a comparison of how we feel once we're where we want to be. One of my issues at the moment is I lack any concrete goals and only have the vague idea of 'adding strength', so we'll see how those shape up in the coming month.

Aren't they just amazing? I may have to do that!

Thanks for the input trepan. It's great to hear some positive opinions from a guy since most of my male friends seem to think I'm doing something awful by starting to lift. My dad is the only one who supports me in it and he's a bit overly keen with it since he was a fighter and a soldier back in the day and doesn't recognize that I have the durability of a two year old currently. Thanks for the compliment.

Interesting quote TPW: makes a lot of sense, too.

Great to hear you're back on track DW! I agree with you on the health, I have a couple of long term issues that need managing now before they floor me when I'm older. Keep me updated on how you get on with it! :)
