My point about color is that when buying a new car you can chose the color so thats not a valid argument. And i am mainly talking about car cars like every day cars. You wanna talk best in the world as in luxury and preformance then obviously Germany and Italy dominate. I meant practical cars that not only the top 1% of americans can afford

Jap cars are way better.more reliable too but they can be accused of lacking character and having no soul. (read:boring)

I especially like the older pre 1980 ford and chevy trucks, but really any of the older cars I always liked better. Quality over quantity.

You can't go to a Honda dealership and buy a new car that is a Ford only colour, so that argument is invalid.

You never mentioned you're only talking about one specific type of car, but even then my argument stays the same.
Ford sold 175,717 Focuses in 2011 in the United States.
Ford sold 584,917 F150's in 2011 in the United states.

By your logic, you mean to tell me that the F150 is better than a Ford Focus?

And to me, a Ferrari is a practical car. You see, I hate driving unless it's on a closed race track. I don't even have a drivers license which is kind of weird for a mechanic I guess.

I love how most vehicles these days regardless of make, model, price point, etc have speedometers with limits of 140mph+. How many people really, if ever "need" a car that goes that fast? By the way, I love my Korean made Hyundai.

been over 140 in the vette and my speedo goes to 210!

Okay... sooo...

I've actually recently switched Sides...

I used to be big on japanese cars... Foreign cars in general and thought american cars were crap.

Turns out American cars are among some of the most reliable (nowadays) if not the best in their class. JD Power&Associates has given Ford the nod in reliability and Initial Build Quality over Honda and Toyota in recent years. GM won Ward's Ten Best Engines with their EcoTech turbo 4 (which BTW is a beast of an engine)

Ford just introduced a 3cylinder 1.0 liter making 150lbs-ft of torque and getting 50mpg. That's obscene amounts of torque and MPG!

I'm not completely sold on Attention to detail in some of the recent Cadillacs (the STS, for example had mismatched dash colors that drove me up the wall) But the car was absolutely solid. Unimpeachable actually. I had a cadillac SRX as well. Outstanding vehicle with not a SINGLE problem with it until it got totaled in a head-on collision with an on-coming speeding car (with only a scraped knee as an injury mind you). Safe as heck too!

I have a japanese car, but the way things are looking, American Cars are DEFINITELY going to be the new thing...

Would you believe that an American car is the fastest selling and most popular car in its class in some countries in Europe? The Fisker Karma is, for all intents and purposes, an American car! Tesla's Model S is also an American Built and developed car which is going to be a hit across the world. Seriously...

Dodge's new Dart, that's an incredible little car (granted it's based on the Giulietta, which is an Italian car)... There's a lot of very cool cars coming out of the Red White and Blue. I honestly would rather buy American these days than anything else.

The japanese cars are HIGHLY unimpressive, and german cars are incredibly expensive for that you get... Seriously?! I FIFTY THOUSAND DOLLAR BMW 3 series, that's NOT an M?! and what's the M3 nowadays?! 80-90k? should be slapped for even entertaining the idea of buying a 3 series for 100k

The only thing I can say, the Acura RLX and NSX are technologically interesting because they're the first with Hybrid Drive systems that incorporate Electric Motors at only ONE end of the car. compeletely and then a hybrid Engine/Motor combination at the other end. That should be an interesting synergy.

Anyway, no I'm not impressed at all by the stuff coming out of Japan these days. The cars are a disappointment and they're stupid expensive for what you get. American cars you get a lot more value for your money, and the companies are historically American. :)

I love the new Caddies!!!! AWESOME CARS. I do think the cost to manufacture american cars is outrageous do in part to the unions which puts american cars at a dissadvantage from the start.

From my experience, I am of the following opinion:

American cars = great 0 - 5 years

American cars = sh*t 6+ years

Japanese cars = great 0 - 20+ years

I know a lot of people with very strong loyalty to Japanese vehicles, but I don't share that opinion. I've seen plenty of Mazdas and Hondas crap out of friends and family, just as I've seen American cars do the same. In this day of mass-production at minimal cost, there isn't a huge difference in quality anywhere. And the American cars really have improved a lot in quality, fuel efficiency, and features since the auto bailout. Look for the best company, not style of production (i.e. Hyudai, VW, or Ford vs. Japanese or American).

I think the bad rap on american cars is from the late 70's through the 80's transition to fi & ecu ungodly emmisions and vac systems and just full of sh*t that was doomed when they left the lot. Fast forward to late 90's and OBDII along with all the new technology and american cars absolutely blow the doors of the imports.

No, the bad rap on American cars still stems from problems even today.
Can anyone name a year since 2000 where Ford has not issues a recall on any of their cars for fires starting either with the exhaust, brake fluid reservoirs, or electrical devices?

Dude, EVERY manufacturer issues recalls on cars.............and yes, that does include Nissan, Toyota and Honda. I seem to recall a certain Japanese auto brand that lost MILLIONS if not BILLIONS of dollars in profit because of acceleration issues (yes, talkin' Toyota here). Toyota tried to cover their sh*t up too. Some of these issues went back to the late 90's.

As was said above, American cars back in the 70's and 80's and even the 90's SUCKED! My first new car ever was a 1989 Ford Escort..........that car was a flaming piece of crap! It was nothing more than a modern day Ford Pinto. And back in the late 80's, just about EVERY American car was getting sh*t reviews from Consumer Reports. That isn't the case anymore. I see many, MANY more American cars getting "recommended" ratings than I ever used to in the past.

The price of cars in general is utterly ridiculous! I mean, I'd LOVE to get my hands on a Ford F250 super crew........yeah, $50K! $50K for a truck!?!?! Really????

And if you want to talk about crap reliability, take a good look at Mercedes. You pay a butt load for the CHEAPEST car and their cars consistently get sh*t reviews from Consumer Reports.
