I don't think Americans shouldn't have the right, I just think that guns are way too easily attainable. It should be something that one has to go through arduous screening to be able own. Apparently you don't need a background check, just a liscence, is this right? Or only in certain states?

Even a background check isn't enough, family members should also need background checks, psych evaluations, extensive checks on the people looking to own guns.

So what's next??? Back ground check after check? When Obama shows up at your door to check your prostate, you gonna let him? Damn, enough is enough !!!

For dangerous weapons. Yes.

Wasn't suggesting checks for anything else. Why is it when someone suggests something like this, people jump to " what will come next, background checks for hamburgers".

It's not taking away a everyone's rights, it's taking the rights from those who don't deserve them.

You need background check to buy sudafed in the states.

Gosh...this is such an emotive subject...and a great debate!

I've served in several conflicts...including the Falklands and Belfast...and taking someone's life by pulling a trigger isn't a natural human reaction...believe me, I know. If you honestly believe that carrying a gun makes you safer in your everyday life then I hope you never have to use it.

What they did with the fully automatic weapons has kinda worked. There is a lot of background checks when it comes to class 3 license holders and only one of those guns registered in that way has been used inside of a violent crime the last time I checked. But whatever Merica!

With great respect. All I can say is, when you threaten the rights of the "one" you threaten the rights of the "manny"! I frankly didn't even know why there is a dicussion about this.

I don't own a gun, I never have even hit anyone , in anger or otherwise. But I'll be damned if I'll let anyone take the Right I have to own one and use it to protect the life and liberty of my family.

But your right is only "threatened" if you are not deserving of that right in the first place.

As far as I'm aware in the UK you need to have background checks along with a secure guns cabinet before obtaining a firearms certificate...not sure...no need for me to have one.

I wasn't suggesting taking your right. Only proving you deserve it.

Oh I see? Now I have to prove to YOU! That my RIGHT to bear arms, guaranteed to me by the Constitution of the US of A, is ok with YOU! Really?

This is a debate...and a very interesting one...you're perfectly entitled to your opinions.

There is no debate here. Unless there is an attempt to ignore the constitution. Seems to happen a lot lately.

Why would you have to prove it to me? I'm a student living in Ireland.

I find it weird that you think your "Right" to bear arms is in anyway comparable to normal rights.

Hey...I was being affectionate...we all call our mates "geezer" in the UK. Lost in translation I suppose.

I was enjoying your input...totally shows the difference between attitudes between the US and the UK.

You want to go there?

Where are america in the rankings for crime rate? No.1 on the highest crime rate ranking,

Ireland we are in the top 10 for lowest crime rate. Denmark or Iceland are no.1 I think.

So basically I have two out of towners telling me how we Yanks should get it together. Sorry that offends me. It's ok. Frankly both of you are great on this forum. But my freedom and liberty have come at great cost to this country. Il be damned if I plan on giving it up. The founding fathers knew what they were doing.
