I also appreciate your point of view, but I still don't get it. A pen and can of tuna aren't meant as weapons...guns are.

The point is. It isn't the object it's the person. Anything can be used as a weapon.

I appreciate your point of view but I just don't get that argument. You can legally own a gun in the UK if it is properly registered and you have a firearms certificate....problem solved(ish).

We have to legally register guns here in the United States. Majority of shootings come from unregistered or stolen guns. Except in this case where the shooters father bought him the gun.

There's no need to have a firearm unless you're up to no good or pretty stupid.

There's a lot of gun owners who probably don't think too highly of you Brits either. I'd rather be stupid and alive with a gun than well just dead.

i read a story a few years back that 90% of the murders in one year in Washington DC were committed with one gun. Ballistics evidence. One guy didn't run around killing 100 people, obviously a gang owned gun shared with many. I guess the U.S. Should take everyone's gun away so only the gangs have them.

You guys obviously believe very passionately about the right to bear arms and defend yourselves, which I totally understand. But surely your example is the exception to the rule? Surely 100 people didn't murder 100 different people with the same gun? In the UK those gang members may have all been guilty under the "joint enterprise" law regardless of who pulled the trigger.

Although, I must say that if I lived in the states I may very well be tempted to carry a firearm.

It's all good.

If our right/freedom to have guns is taken away from us. All of our freedoms will be taken away. It is our last hope.

We are going to keep having these shooting in America because we have 300 million + guns and we have no way of stopping them from falling into the wrong hands.

I guess that's a culture difference between me and my cousins across the pond. Although I'm still glad that I live in a country where I don't have to (mostly) worry about some "hot head" losing his temper in some road rage incident and sticking a gun in my ear...even if I was packing myself.

Many drugs are illegal yet those that use seem to be able to get them don't they? Do you really think if they outlawed guns the bad guys wouldn't be able to get them? Sure they would although I would be in favor of more creative ways of murdering folk.

Your really going to be in the woods with a militia fighting against our government?

My thoughts: I think some of you have it all wrong. In the US, for the majority of gun owners, (and almost all who have it legally), one of the reasons that they have guns in the first place is to be able to protect their families and other people around them from those who are up to no good. And, actually, I think if you tried to take them away, it would be the weaker members of society that would have an issue. Ex: if an elderly woman cannot defend herself physcially, she can usually do so with a firearm. But if that firearm is taken away, she will have no means to prevent crime directed at her. Yes, some people use them for terrible purposes, but overall, most gun owners use their firearms to DETER crime. I think it all comes down to the person on how they choose to use it.

We like our guns and gun rights in Texas.
Just the other day..
Gov. Greg Abbott over the weekend will sign bills expanding gun rights. With his signature, legislation will allow people to carry guns on college campuses — and carry handguns out in the open.

'Go ahead, make my day', and 'Don't mess with Texas', two of my favorites.

ps. We're going to have our own Gold depository
Texas is planning to build its own state-controlled depository and wants its gold back from New York State. The Lone Star state will repatriate its $1 billion in gold bullion.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott signed House Bill 483 into law last Friday.

It's almost an impossible issue to resolve! I just don't like guns...I've seen what they can do many times in my life.

A Violence Policy Center Study just showed that intended victims of property crimes use guns in only 0.1% of time they are targeted.

Why do you think that is?

There's a lot more good guys than bad in my opinion.

I guess if the colonists didn't have guns, we'd be country men, yes?

just sayin? I'm glad we had guns. Maybe that's why it's a RIGHT to bear arms? Ya think. Back in WW II. Both Japan and Germany questioned any invasion on USA soil. Everyone has guns!!! Probably why the first thing Hitler did was take everyone's guns from them. Maybe you should ask if your safer? Sure, there's gonna be a nut job, once in awhile , and it's tragic, but I'd rather keep my freedom than give it away to the politicians, so they can "protect Me".

I don't think Americans shouldn't have the right, I just think that guns are way too easily attainable. It should be something that one has to go through arduous screening to be able own. Apparently you don't need a background check, just a liscence, is this right? Or only in certain states?

Even a background check isn't enough, family members should also need background checks, psych evaluations, extensive checks on the people looking to own guns.
