Sorry guys, the first pic is not an AK-47. That is an AR-15.

The AK-47 is a Soviet designed weapon that is made rather "loose" and can continue to fire even when subjected to mud, dirt, etc. The AR-15 is an American weapon and is made with tighter tolerances and doesn't seem to take to as much abuse but still is a very good weapon. That is why our military has used it for so many decades.

The MG-42 is a German made weapon and you definitely don't want to be on the receiving end of that one.

The MG 42 was a weapon well ahead of it's time.It was so good the German's based their tactics upon it.

Every man had to carry ammunition for the MG.They would set up and pin down any one unfortunate enough to be on the other side.

The weapon fired so rapidly and so terrified troops special training films had to be made about it.

The SAW M60 used in the Vietnam war was based on that.

The AR 15 has a curved magazine which may have lead it to be confused with the classic AK curved magazine.

The AK works so well after all kinds of abuse many of the less enlightened presume it needs no maintenance at all.

The AR15 design has been refined over the years and the early reliability issues have been ironed out.A fine weapon.
