Hey all,

Im 24 and have been browsing this forum for around a month now and I seem to have the same problem as all of you. I won't waste space with all of my symptoms as quite a few are the same as most have already described....I feel that I can relate with 95% of what people have written. My hard flaccid problem started after a period of extreme stress (self inflicted and stupid...makes my current situation even more unbearable due to the fact that I am constantly reflecting on the fact that it could have been avoided with smarter desicion making). It started with intense insomnia and sudden onset erectile dysfunction...I mean literally overnight I started experiencing frequent night awakenings. My first clue that something was wrong with my dick was 2 nights into the insomnia when I had a nocturnal emission with a fully flaccid dick. In the following weeks I experienced ED for the first time in my life. Normally I am a walking erection...but all of a sudden I'm experiencing zero spontaneous erections and weak erections with vigorous manual stimulation. Needless to say I was sh*t scared at this point. Went to my doctor and he said it was anxiety. I had a one night stand with a girl 3 weeks into the whole ordeal and almost cried tears of joy when I was able to get and maintain a full erection. Well I didn't last too long as I hadnt ejaculated in weeks so she starts giving me a handy like 5 minutes later trying to get me going...well she tugs way to forcefully to the point where it hurts and I stop her after a couple of seconds. A horrible lay...but all in all Im just happy my dick was able to work with a girl.

3-4 days later I started getting weird spasm, tingling like feelings in my perineal region and then I developed the hard flaccid condition which brought me scrambling to the internet and this forum. SO yeah...I've had this horrible condition for a month now...but atleast for me it seems to have been brought on by extreme anxiety/stress and possibly the forceful painful tugging by that dumb chick. The sad thing is that I have always been a laid back person and the fact that my current predicament can be traced to a single event that I could have easily avoided is killing me on the inside. I can't get it off my mind...and I still am sleeping like sh*t. Anyway sorry for the sob story...I know its not good to wallow in self-pity but its just so hard with this sh*t...as all of you are well aware. I told my dad about it and he just laughed...says I am neurotic. Doctors have been dismissive with me as well.

My current situation 2 months post stressful event is constant firm cold flaccid of normal length that is made much worse by exercising, nocturnal erections are either weak or extremely hard and uncomfortable and take forever to go down, bulging veins on either side of penis, spontaneous erections are almost impossible to get, like many of you head doesnt fill normally....many other symptoms as well. I wanted to share my story as perhaps some of the details may shed some light on the situation. In my opinion the reasons behind developing this condition are probably more complex then simply attributing it to one thing. I think the chronic muscle contraction/pelvic pain theory holds the most water but I can't discount other possibilities. All I know is that I want my normal dick back. I want to glance at the curvy brunette at the corner table in starbucks..imagine what it would be like taking her from behind...and pop wood haha. Funny how I used to consider that annoying to get an erection in public.

This sucks guys..it sucks alot. Take solace in the fact that nothing is permanent. That is what I have been trying to tell myself. The body is a self regulating, dynamic, highly complex biological system that even the most brilliant minds barely understand. We may all feel broken right now...but there's no telling what situation we might find ourselves in several years from now. The penis is arguably the most important part of our anatomy as it is intimately involved in maintaining the survival of our species. Do you really believe that millions of years of evolution wouldn't have fine tuned a way to ensure that our dicks continued to function properly? I'm not advocating being complacent...im searching for solutions as much as any of you...I'm just saddened by some of the comments mentioning suicidal ideations and indicating deep depression and I hope that everyone can put this issue in perspective. What would a gorilla do if his penis suddenly started acting weird? probably go out and fuck female gorillas with an uncomfortable dick...haha im no zoologist but you guys get my point...I think as humans we are blessed and cursed by our big brains. ive seen plenty of comments on here from people saying to not become obsessed with this issue and to become engrossed in life and continue to enjoy things...I think that is the best advice I have read on this forum. I know its easier said then done...I am struggling with it myself. By all means schedule the doctors appointment, buy the ginko supplements and apply the hot wraps...but dont become consumed by constant thoughts about your dick. The mind-body connection is stronger than we all think.

sorry for the rambling nature of my post...good luck ...I hope that we all overcome this soon ! !

well in the mean time make sure to take magnesium supplements especially magnesium oil if you can get your hands on it. Secondly no masturbation or anything man. Nothing, keep with the hot wraps. Third, please go to hardflaccid.org and fill out the survey and post your story there as well

I encourage everyone to read through these example cases of Superficial Dorsal Vein Thrombosis of the penis. It sounds all too familiar, and even the photos may to you as well. Big dorsal veins, penises are all contracted looking.

Dont' be lazy, read the whole thing. Note the causes; stretching, excessive activity, squeezing, etc. Sounds plausible, considering the high number of people who practice jelqing etc who have this.

Looks like all cases in this report resolved on their own in a matter of weeks/months with complete sexual abstinence. I don't know about you guys but I was getting better at an awesome clip and all of the improvement seemed to grind to a halt the moment I had any sexual activity. It didn't get worse, but stopped getting better. I really hope I didn't permanently cause my improvement to peak because of it.

This may not be related at all to HF, but time and again during research this article keeps popping up. I would recommend printing it out and bringing it with you to your urology or doctor appointments. Perhaps it's the answer, perhaps it's part of the answer, and perhaps it's not related at all. But showing this, and your penis, to your doctor together might be worth doing.

Warning: After you read through this you are going to be even more frustrated by your own lazy ass doctors who wouldn't even have half the care or curiosity as the ones who are in this report. Makes me want to move to Italy! :)

I think we all greatly appreciate all of your efforts dude (atleast I do), but please stop speculating on what this firm flaccid condition could be. This is getting a bit crazy now, don't you think? I know you're putting in alot of time into online research, but do you realize how rare Mondor's Disease is? I heard from a Urologist with 25+ years experience, and he said that he's never seen A SINGLE CASE of penile vein thrombosis. Thats how rare it is. I highly doubt it has anything to do with "hard flaccid".

Well rare things do happen, that's what makes them just "rare" and not "imaginary". Also rather rare is the act of squeezing and stretching one's penis in an attempt to make it grow, but that certainly happens. It's also quite rare that men with penis problems are comfortable with even showing it to a doctor at all.

Wouldn't you consider the hard flaccid thing to be rare as well? If it weren't, all the doctors we have shown it to would have identified it by now. I wouldn't expect a doctor to be able to identify something which is rare, something that they had never seen in 25 years of practice, on sight alone. That's kind of impossible. What would they have to compare it to? Diagnoses of rare and scarcely documented conditions are typically diagnosed instead by process of elimination - just like in the reports I linked to. This report shows 18 patients shown to present with it out of a total of 1296 patients in a single clinic, and another 105 who potentially had it alongside an STD. I wouldn't call that outrageously rare at all.

But I'd call it rare enough that 9 out of 10 typical urologists wouldn't know what it was or have ever seen it. What we have is rare, that is a fact. So why not consider other things which are also rare as the possible answer? Makes sense to me. If hard flaccid weren't rare there would be an aisle for it at the corner drug store.

I'm not claiming that this is what it is. All I'm saying is that it's worth showing some documented medical reports of cases that have very similar symptoms to ours when our urologists are scratching their heads figuring out why our dick suddenly looks like a bag of worms. :)

Veins don't get huge for no reason. So, let's look at what causes enlarged veins. Blood clots. What also obstructs blood flow? Blood clots. Forget that it has the word "disease" in and is named after a guy named Mondor. It's just a blood clot. What's known to cause it? The stuff some people here are doing with their penises, among other things.

I think ruling something out which happens to make a whole lot of sense just because it has the word "rare" associated with it and people's personal doctors haven't seen it is just silly. They haven't seen hard flaccid yet either apparently. What's the difference?

Can you guys bend your penis when it is hard flaccid? I'm seriously thinking that this is all in my head right now. As I don't have ANY other symptoms except the firm flaccid penis.
I can still bend it like before..

...figuring out why our dick suddenly looks like a bag of worms. :)

Hmm. Well mine doesn't look like that (..sometimes the bottom of my nutsac does, however! ; ). My veins perhaps look a little distended when im in super HF mode, but things tend to do that when they're constricted to a smaller area than they're typically used to. That doesn’t necessarily mean that something is wrong with the vessels themselves. Think of it like taking a 1 ft section of rope and trying to to stuff it into a small glass as opposed to medium one. When I am hanging "normal" or erect, I really don't notice anything all that out of the ordinary. At least in my case.

How many hours a day do you spend researching this stuff, and posting on this website? Just curious... please don't take offence to me asking.

No offense taken, and I'm usually the one barking at other people for hypothesizing, so my only excuse today is that I happen to have the day off work and have a little too much time on my hands.

I definitely don't want to ever give any impression that I have any medical clue what I'm talking about. I just want to dig up as much info as possible for doctors who are too lazy or indifferent to do it on their own, even if it's only to eliminate things. I genuinely don't care what the cause is at this point, but since nobody seems to know what it is maybe at least we can start officially checking off things that it isn't. That's why I am recommending people at least ask their doctor to address the thrombosis thing. Even if it ends up being a definite "no" it would be one less thing to cloud the water and worry about. The fact that people are repeatedly getting misdiagnosed is what annoys me even more. One guy wrote in who was separately diagnosed with High Flow Priapism, tissue constriction, Peyronie's Disease and Venous Leak. It's maddening. Right now I consider anything possible. Blood clots, muscle contraction, priapism, aliens coming into our rooms and zapping our dicks with a laser while we sleep. I'll take anything I can get.

I dig what you're saying about the veins. Perhaps my situation is a bit different. When this first happened my penis became really super constricted and shrunk a whole bunch. It was rock hard and my perineum muscles were non-functioning. I couldn't move them at all, was peeing myself, it was bad. And the dorsal vein was immediately noticeably much larger and pronounced than it's ever been. Before that, I honestly didn't have a single visible vein in my penis other than tiny cappilaries in the skin. So I know for sure my dorsal vein has something to do with this, whether it is on the cause or the effect side, I have no idea. But even when I am lying down and have totally normal flaccid that dorsal vein is way bigger than it should be. I've gotten about 80% of the size back but it's still rubbery and the vein and dent situation has become pretty damn ugly.

Just a few minutes ago sitting at my desk, which lately has been the position that allows for total alleviation, I felt some really obnoxious pains in the butt. Prostate stuff, which annoys me because I'm taking these stupid alpha blockers which are supposed to precisely help with that. So that moment I gave it a feel and it's harder and smaller than it's been in weeks. Seems the only time I get any real relief is when I'm up and walking around for long periods of time, which is a complete 180 degree opposite than it was in the beginning. Very weird.

When I first got my HF about march of '09, I also noticed my dorsal vein got more pronounced practically overnight.

Whats concerning me is after my injury, I noticed an extremely sharp pain at the base of my shaft and the dorsal vein deflated maybe about 40%. There was no bruising or swelling so I dont think the vein ruptured, but I definitely think I hurt it somehow as it has not returned back to its post HF "normal" size. So it is still a lot more pronounced then before I got HF but a little less after my injury.. And it still has a kind of blue/purplish unhealthy color too it.

I wonder what happened to the vein and if it is making my ED worse? What role does the superficial dorsal vein play?

Another thing.

Since this hard flaccid thing stops blood flow when standing up, please do a little experiment:

Get an erection sitting down
Stand up and see how long it lasts without touching it or looking at porn.

My erection lasted nearly 4 minutes before going flaccid when doing this...

My results would be 4-5 seconds, and I think that also speaks for many other guys on here. But then again there was no way in hell I could get an erection to last 4 minutes standing up before this, or 4 minutes sitting down without manual stimulation or porn. Never in a million years.

Man, I dont know whats going on sometimes. Even the most minimal feather kind of stimulation on any area seems to increase the numbness even more for me. Just doesnt make any sense that my penis could be THAT fragile. It seems my nerves are just extremely prone to further damage right now. I would assume its from lack of proper blood flow to the tissue. Im guessing Im probably alone in this respect. Ive been trying to stay away from wanking but my libido gets really intense sometimes. I have to leave it alone completely. This nerve thing is by far the most cruel of all the symptoms in my experience.

Must be a jedi..

Keep in mind that the nerve runs from the tip of your penis all the way through your perineum to the anus. Same nerve. Put your finger near your b-hole and with the other hand give a quick and gentle squeeze to the tip of your penis. It should cause a reflex all the way down the nerve and make your anus twitch. That nerve could be impinged upon anywhere along the way. I agree, lack of blood and hard tissue makes the most sense, but pudendal nerve damage is pretty common, especially for people with pelvic problems. Once I got the function of my perineum muscles back the numbness subsided a lot, also stopped peeing myself which is nice.

As for the standing boners, mine drops immediately upon standing. Deflates like a balloon. Previously I could walk around the house forever with a solid erection as long as I was aroused with no manual stimulation needed at all.

Ok - I got my blood test results today. Total testosterone was at 819 (normal listed as 249-836ng/dl) and free testosterone was 23.59 (normal listed as 5.0-21.0ng/dl). So my free test. was a little bit higher than normal. (??) WTF.

PSA was at 0.5ng/ml (normal listed as 0.0-4.0ng/ml)

I thought too high of a free test. level can be an indicator of a problem. And it was early afternoon when I had blood drawn. (??)

Also, can a PSA of 0.5 be a possible indicator of slight prostate inflammation in a person my age (26)? Or is that number low enough to be deemed trivial?

I'm not a doctor but on every blood test I've ever had there's almost always one or two things that are above or below the normal range. Not grossly, just a tiny bit. Every doctor I've ever had would assure me that minute abnormalities are nothing to worry about, could be a different deal with hormones. I really don't know. But as someone who recently tested with super low testosterone, I'd gladly take your numbers over mine any day. Blood levels modulate a lot so you could test tomorrow and they'll be 20 degrees in the other direction.

PSA isn't necessarily related to inflammation, but more specifically used as a possible cancer indicator. I've had pretty substantial prostate inflammation and have never had any detectable PSA levels. You are well within the normal range on that so I wouldn't even lose any sleep over that one at all. Anyway, your doctor will tell you if they are anything to worry about. I bet you'll be just fine though. :)

Well, I did kegels vefore bed last night, and not even overtrained, only like 20-30. Today, hard flaccid I guess could be called substantially bad, due to the fact that when I lay down, it IS giving me relief, but nowhere near as much as I usually get. It was actually still entirely hard for about a minute after laying down today, which NEVER happens. On top of this, on my way home from college, I felt this recurring pain in my perineum, really close to the anus or actually on the anus itself (whatever muscle/muscles that are associated with that are...)

I definetely know that pelvic floor therapy or trigger point message would not cure this condition, especially because I get that hourglass shape in my penis sometimes, which would be a structural problem with the penis. But maybe I could find some relief of the HF by getting pelvic trigger point message or something?
