If you are the type that skip meal and just take a water/protein powder shake yes its better to eat real food.
Havever a post workout shake with a highkvality whey protein with no added sugars combined with handfull of frosen blue berries, one banana and one fresh pilled orange mixed with skim milk is properly the most healthy and natural eat you can ever have.
Whey protein is a super protein, it has the highest biology value of any protein there is, it is also the only supplement that have zero known side effects.
Its only when people mix whey protein with just milk or water and call it a meat you have a problem
Fresh fruit is the food type that have the highest contends of natural vitamins, fibers, antioxidants and just about everything else healthy the body needs, but fruit lack one very important ingredient and that is protein, that is where whey protein power become a extremely valuable food source.
Pre-workout supplements contains high amounts of caffein, some like jack3d even contains a stimulant called 1.3 dimethylamylamine that works alot like amphetamine .
What the all have in common is that the push the body into the fight or flight zone witch causes cortisol levels to go through the roof and that is not healthy if you dont use them in moderation.
The benefits is that you can push yourself harder then you normally can and by that causing more natural HGH release when you sleep , and natural HGH is extremly good for you because it makes the body capable of repairing the body much faster and more effectively.
Thats the reason why all doctors before a major surgery will advice you to be in as good a shape as possible in order to heal proberly.
The bottom line is that pre-workout supplemets and whey protein powder is two very different things that work in two very different ways.
Preworkouts push the body in a unnatural way and have many side effects and that can be unhealthy
Protein powder is a pure and natural food source that have no side effects and combined with other healty foods and you have a extremely healthy super food
I agree with you 100%. I am older and have have been lifting for over 30 years. A scoop of Gold Standard, various fruits, raw oatmeal, skim milk, nuts and a raw egg cuts my recovery time in half. I am past the age of being able to workout more than twice a week, but I am lifting the maximum amount of weight I can each workout. Calling top quality whey protein poison is about as dumb a statement as I want to hear today, tomorrow, etc. A while back I was out of work and cut my post workout drink out to save some money. I am not one to make myself believe something that isn't true, so it wasn't psychosomatic or anything, but my recovery time doubled between workouts. Because of that my progress slowed down considerably. Some might argue that the raw egg could be a bad thing due to salmonellosis, but everything else I put in my post drink is top quality food stuffs. [h=4][/h]
