I have only done a brisket twice, both on a smoker. First time success, second time complete failure. If you're going to do it on a smoker. You have to baby it. You have to maintain your heat, low and slow. I just went online and found a brisket rub. I remember using a mop sauce with pepper jelly and mint jelly on the first one. Two jars pepper and one jar of mint. I kept mopping it every thirty minutes. When it was finished about twelve hours. It had the smoke ring plus a thin candy shell around it. For some reason it tasted good, the family really enjoyed it. Proof came when there was none left. Brisket was tender and tasty.

Just had this conversation with someone and thought it might be interesting enough to talk about.
What decade/time do you think you would have been best suited to?
I think I would have been great in the early 1900's or the 1960's/70's. I do have that build for farm/factory work, which the early 1900's had plenty of, but I think with the advent of computers in the 70's I probably would have flourished there, although I am pretty sure I would have been drafted which probably would not have ended well.

Don, I think I am just it the right time for me. I love my life up and downs included and being able to see the changes that have happened during my life time.
I'm def a back to the past type of person not leap to the future/unknown.

Not off hand. I'm pretty sure if you use a rub for a smoker it would still do good in the oven. Sorry for not being too much help.

While the lottery is certainly a common thing to do it for I would probably do it to try out Chef Boyardee's actual cooking. I want to know what his cooking actually tasted like and to see if that sauce is the same as what is currently found in the cans we have now.
