Says who? So other people don't want to trade with us or benefit from our protection? Good luck
Says Donald Trump. Breaks his own deals, threatens, disrespects and says he does not need the ally at all or anything from them. The world is just accepting the USA as exactly what it is intentionally trying to be, not a good ally or partner for it's allies.

Well lets see the US has pissed off Canda big time (good trick btw) ,Mexico is not happy ,China ,The Eurozone (lot of countries in there) just off the top of my head .

I see Portugal has canceled F35 and other countries are having a rethink on them

It seems the US is the one who is into the trade war thing so of course alternate markets will be found .

ON the positive the euro will be more self reliant .

Problems for countries like Taiwan and Aussie which put a lot of trust in the US

Trump is already doing similar with his tariffs. The USA's constitution specifically says only congress can implement tariffs. I think it was about 50 years ago an amendment was made allowing for President's to implement things like tariffs specifically in cases of national emergencies (although no other President has ever chosen to implement tariffs through executive orders before). That is why a lot of Trump's bullshit trade war reasons started with inventing imaginary Canadian fentanyl cartels importing to USA among other lies. Because without those lies, his self damaging trade war is literally beyond his power, illegal and against the American constitution. The house and senate might be republican but I doubt on their own enough of them would come at Canada with reckless self harming tariffs to pass it if the decision was theirs as it should be.

And other countries treat us well? Why does a 50,000 dollar Cadillac cost 79,000 in Europe?

Other countries treat US fine as far as I can tell . The whiping up of hysteria is a typical autocrat play .

Anyone have more to say about wartime powers something to do with immigrants ?

Yep. Pretty scary waters we're heading into there, I agree!

If that is true it has nothing to do with tariffs and the American company is overcharging their European customers. 10% tariff on 50000 is 5000 so you are ripping off your European customers by over charging them an additional 50%. The American company is choosing to do this and not being forced to by a tariff. Of course there are shipping fees as well. BTW a quick google search will tell you that 85% of American made cars for sale in Europe avoid the 10% tariff because they have European parts somewhere in them.

Don't worry though, Trump's tariff plan will make the caddy cost 79000 in America and then the Euros can add their 10% on top of that.

I assume all numbers you put in your post were in American dollars and does not include sales tax which applies to all products equally but may vary by country.

So the company itself is over charging Europeans in an attempt to sell more cars; does that make sense to you?

I don't know how much a Cadillac costs in Europe but I do think you're both wrong in explaining why it would be. Not only is the VAT in many countries as much as 25%, but the cars sent there have to be designed differently to comply with their regulations (safety, emissions, etc). In addition to that, Cadillac is a pretty niche auto there which means it's marketing and distribution will cost more and the supply-to-demand ration is VERY different than it is in the US.

We impose a 2.5% tariff on EU cars and they impose a 10% tariff on ours. Then add their VAT on top of that and you'll see.

Once again... consumers pay the costs of tariffs.

That might explain why the information that I see online says there are no tariffs on 85% of American cars sold in Europe because they have European parts somewhere in them, perhaps to comply with the regulations you mentioned.

Perhaps. People love the headline though and don't care to look much deeper. Sort of like the whole Canadian tariff on US dairy story when, in fact, it's essentially never paid because the limit's never hit.

Lot of half truth ,distortion out of context etc out in the world always has been . Must say though there has been a big uptick in outright lies in recent years .

The problem is fact checking is so tedious and time consuming a 5min read can take 5 hr to fact check . So I tend to ignore totally stuff coming from bad sources .

Hahaha I have actually been waiting patiently for someone on the pro Trump side to bring up dairy tariffs and Canada so that I could inform them that no American dairy products have ever been charged a tariff entering Canada and we in fact as Canadians buy 3 times more USA made dairy products total than Americans buy Canadian made dairy products total. Again despite our population only being 10% the size.

Honestly I think things like that have a lot to do why Canadians are so pissed off. Particularly by Trump's lies. We were willing to accept the free trade deal with USA as fair and beneficial for both while doing our part in it. If you really look at the reality of the numbers and consider our comparatively small population, we are in fact the ones being unfairly treated in the trade balances as individual people and at the same time we are still keeping the trade balance close to even as a nation (USA surplus if you remove discounted oil). Yet it is the other side unprovokedly and repeatedly saying that we are the ones taking advantage of them. Nonsense has become a popular word here to describe the current situation with the USA.

Funny, Canada purchases US F18 Hornet Fighters and the majority of its Military aircraft from the US, as well as the majority of its military hardware.

Funny how those crazy eggs prices, and fuel prices have dropped since Trump been in office a whole 51 days!

You're looking at wholesale prices. Do you buy eggs? I do - probably close to 2 dozen per week. Do you see the retail price going down like that?
You must be unaware that the wholesale price of eggs was falling prior to Trump and the USDA announcing their $1B plan to combat Avian Flu. $1B!!! (as I roll my eyes at another tax payer bill to solve a market issue).

Q: Why were wholesale prices already falling?
A1: Demand is considerably lower (markets sort of work that way)
A2 (and the important one): Far fewer hens are being lost to Avian Flu

Do you, in all seriousness, credit Trump with somehow lowering the price of eggs?!

To answer your original question, Pegasus, "Is the West in decline", the whole world is in decline because people aren't interested in truth as much as they're interested in whatever tidbit they can find to support what they want to believe and are happy to discard everything else.
The problem is fact checking is so tedious and time consuming a 5min read can take 5 hr to fact check . So I tend to ignore totally stuff coming from bad sources .
I don't know... I don't think that finding the truth is really that time consuming. I think most just find the truth to be so inconvenient.

Yes, I purchase 2 dozen Eggs a week as a part of my wife's and I's fitness regime.
Fuel Prices are dropping including Diesel that Delivery trucks use.
Higher fuel prices add to the delivery prices that the Grocery stores pass on to the consumer.

Smart businesses will not eat the delivery price increases and pass the cost on to the consumer.

Do you, in all seriousness, believe President Biden who suffers from Dementia did ANYTHING to reduce or stop the Price Hikes?
Biden's handlers were making decisions for the President. Many are now questioning the Biden "Autopen Scandal" used by the Biden Administration.
