It's a real shame Jack LaLanne died, but even more shame that people want to ignore everything that he's proven about fitness and a proper diet.

Even when he died at 96, he still looked healthier and better than most people do in their late 50's.

agreed...and i love his 2 meal premise. people think you should eat many small meals for your metabolism but this doesnt fit a healthful dynamic. you lymphatic system and waste removal systems does most of thier work when you are not eating since bloodflow cant go to every organ at once.

if you are constantly eating, you are limiting the amount of time your body can be processing and removing waste. less meals is better for your health

Who ever came up with the whole 5 small meals a day thing must be rich as hell right now...but people seem to never want to realize that the whole 5 meal a day thing was created by people who sell snack nutrition bars as a way of selling more, because it's easier to grab a 300 calorie bar a few times a day than carry around small snacks.

I only eat 2.5 meals a day and I'm doing just fine.

What I love most about his 2 meal premise is what his meals consisted of. Egg whites, vegetable broth, fruits, oatmeal, and soy milk for one meal, raw vegetables egg whites, and fish

I have tried other diets, I tried a balanced approach, I tried exercising, and none of it worked for me (unless you consider losing a few ounces in a week as optimal for somone that was in as bad a state as I was) untill I got rid of the carbs and sugars out of my diet. ^ and you're right, it is silly. Silly that something that's the complete opposite of what the "health experts" advise could work and so well for somone. I am going to stick with it, my PE gains are even better than before too so thats even more of a reason.

Quick question.

For the exercise and balanced diet that did not work, what was your calorie intake each day and how many calories did you burn each day?

1-2k calories. 30 mins cardio a day. Didn't start to lose untill I started eating 5-700 calories range with 1-2 meals. Have had my blood sugar checked and am not diabetic, but have high blood pressure. Metabolism was very shitty I assume, seeing now I can have a day off where I eat things like pizza and it no longer puts weight on me like it used to do.

turtle, have you considered a vegetarian based diet? or have you ever tried that style of diet?

balanced diets dont always appropriately address volume. in your stomach there are stretch receptors in your rugae. they tell your mind when you are full. some peoples are less sensitive than others, and thus feeling full takes more food. this is why i suggest more veggies. with this approach you can always eat to the point of being full without fear of going over your caloric limit.

its sad your so caught up on this protein vs fat vs carbs vs sugars thing... you do realize you are still taking in sugar right? gluconeogenesis in your body? if you dont supply the sugar your body will make it, at a cost.

ive been in your shoes. i lost over 60lbs once on the dave palumbo cutting diet. i kept most of it off too....so what? fat loss should not come at the expense of health. now i stay trim the right way

also it works but isnt healthy, and the other options most likely didnt work because you lack the diligence of tracking calories taken in versus calories burned.

also do you eat compulsively?

Ok, 30 minutes cardio, great.

What was the number of calories burned a day?

your metabolism was sh*t from the lack of nutrition and calories. excess restriction will never lose you weight.

also when you even consider atkins. the low carb man of all men. even before he died, he revised a book saying that low carb diets should not be sustained over a lifespan and that a transition should be adopted once the goal is reached.

i blame the damned food pyramid. this is what happens when people consider a "balanced' diet as one that comes from something as asinine as the food pyramid

as for a typical days diet, which is more on topic of this thread heres usually what i eat. a typical days mealplan

first things first, when i say nut mix i mean a blend of ground pecans, brazil nuts, walnuts, cashews, almons, flax seed, pumpkin seed, and sunflower seed

breakfast
-1st half of my 64 oz shake. shake contains 3-5 cups of kale, 2 oz nutmix, 1 cup almond milk, 2 cups orange juice, 1 scoop whole pea protein powder (compare to contents of 1 scoop of whey in terms of macros) 1 tomatoe, 1/3cucumber, .5 to .75 lbs of fruit (frozen mostly blueberries, strawberries, and pinapple) rest blender the rest of the way up with water
- 1 apple
-small salad (a cup or 2 of spinach, diced tomatoe, some raisins, and some balsamic vinegar)

late lunch after workout
-2nd half of 64oz shake
- 2-3 cups lentil soup
- high fiber (7grams) low carb tortilla wrap, with 1 banana, 1 oz nut mix, 2 tbsp organic raspberry jam, sometimes with some peanut butter as well

dinner
-large salad
- .5lb of steamed veggies (usually a mix of brusselsprouts and asparagus
- a cup or two of vegtable stew ( usually the stwe is blended green veggies with tomatoe, mushroom, cabbage, carrots and celery diced into it and flavors with hot spices)

late night snack
- raw veggies (usually a bag of carrots, green beans, bell peppers and sugar snap peas)
-some frozen strawberries

Bigmoe, matter of fact I am eating more vegetables and lettuce now at this point in my life than I ever have, but still keep a close eye on the carbs and sugar intake. I am mostly a meat-man ( he he) but I also enjoy eating things like eggs, tuna, and salmon. It keeps me from feeling hungry, i like the taste, and i still manage to keep the weight off. DemOne, I really don't know how many calories I was burning, but I am going to say that it probably wasn't hardly anything.

Thats what a die of carbs and sugars had done to me, it ruined me and my metabolism. I no longer have that problem as I was saying. I can now take a day or two out a week and eat anything I want and not gain any weight. All of the problems I had before are gone. The erection problems, cravings, being hungry at night, always being hot or overheated and feeling uncomfortable. Again if it worked so well for me why should I consider changing it?

i can be fine with almost any diet as long as veggies are a staple. to me this is the most important part. everything else, while important is not nearly as important as the consumption of vegetation.

so while i dont agree with your diet plan, if you are eating more green than ever before, then you are moving in the right direction

Not knowing how many calories you burned is, I'm willing to bet, is the reason why you barely lost weight. Instead it took it to a point where you had to starve yourself to loose weight.

Eat lean unprocessed meats, veggies that can be (but do not have to be) eaten raw, fruits, nuts, berries, grains and lots of fish. Use nuts for fillers and eat lots of berries. Drink mostly water and a lot every day. exercise (do cardio, agility. not bodybuilding.....) at least once every three days and never sleep more then 8 hours at a time and always wake up at the same time every day. Use peppers and spices to add flavor. once you have developed all this into a routine start on the mind. Read daily, learn an instrument as well as a new language and try writing a short story a week.

most important is to eat and drink before you feel hungry or thirsty. do not diet or starve yourself, instead follow a meal plan. and by that i mean regulate WHAT you eat not HOW MUCH you eat.

I think your diet should be specific for everyone. Right now im on a Low-No carb, and Low-No Sodiun Diet where i yry to take in atleast 120 grams of good protien( No Hydrosalates or Concentrates ).

Ill do this for about a month or two while I trim fat and work on my physique.

Optimally though I believe a balanced diet is whats best once and is what I will move too while still keeping Carbs and Sodium in check. But for now I will stick too High Protiens, lots of Veggies and Fruits, and a glass of milk. I already feel better.

Has anyone seen nice PE gains while not keeping a good diet? It seems the concensus is a good diet can NOT hurt PE gains atleast.

I was about 25lbs overweight and rather than trying to lose it all in a couple weeks I decided to lose about a pound a week and stick with a very regimented workout plan, now I'm 5'9" 181lbs and have a fit body and because I chose to diet the correct way I still have a very high metabolism due to my high amount of lean muscle mass and I am able to eat over 2200 calories every day and still lose 1/2 lb per week and that's not including any extra calories that I burn working out and playing basketball. In reality I can easily eat well over 3000 calories per day without gaining any weight. This is all due to having proper exercise and nutrition regiments.

If I tried to lose all that weight by limiting myself to under 1000 calories per day and just doing cardio every day I would have lost all of the weight in a couple of weeks, but I also would have starved my body of nutrients and would have lowered my metabolism a ton to the point where I would need to eat probably 1200 calories a day in order to maintain weight.

Yep, I think I'll stick with the patient proper way to lose weight and be healthy.

EDIT: Sorry for contributing to this thread getting so far off topic. To get back on track, I don't think that nutrition has much effect on PE as long as you aren't eating a terrible diet every day.
