living being? maybe not, human being? yup.

Medical fact is only fact until its disproved, which happens daily. Religion is simply that.... religion, and personally i say a beleif in god or an afterlife voids your opinion because what happens here doesn't really matter now does it? this is just like a short test for the afterlife.
A dead person is technically a human being too, so I fail to see how being a human being makes a difference in anything.

My statement regarding science isn't 100% 100% of the time was provoked by you saying
"Medical facts will always trump religious opinion which gets passed off as fact."( how about a little more clarification on this. . . maybe an example of what you feel is religious opinion being passed off as medical fact) Your post is stating that the medical information you have posted is fact but it is not 100% factual, 100% of the time. And in my opinion you are applying that other people posting medical information is based on regilgion. My opinions are not based on religion, they are based on edcuation and experince. I am not sure where you are getting you're supposed medical facts but if you would like I will dig up cases where a baby has been delivered at 6 mos and has survived.
1) Can you show me otherwise?
2) Well, that's just your opinion and not what I was doing.
3) Did I ever say that a baby born at 6 months cannot survive? No I did not.

i do nothing to a dead human being, he stays dead. I do nothing to a soon to be living fetal human being (is that right?) and guess what? It turns into an actual human being, capable of sentient thought and everything.

Soon to be and current are two complete different things though. You can also look at it like someone is soon to be 21 (in the US), should they be granted the same permissions as a 21 year old just because they're within 9 months of that age? If not, how can you have the bias that a fetus should be granted the same permissions as a living person, when it's only soon to be one and not currently one?

The fact is that you can also get different answers from different doctors as well as different internet sources so in reality none of us know for certain. If it is said that around 5 weeks the heart beats then that could be 30 days for one fetus and 40 days for another fetus. Just throwing that out there. We could argue the definition of begins over and over, I say it begins with daddys little squirt, others could say it begins with the gleam in mommys eye. Maybe it is when the sperm enters the egg, maybe its after the first heart beat. It may not be life untill the brain starts to function.
My younger brother was delivered at just past 6 months, in 1968. So who thinks a baby at 6 months or less couldnt survive today, many have a great chance. My brother is alive some 40+ years later so I think it's fair to say that life has a great chance at 6 months. He did need alot of medical attention and was in an incubator for quite some time, he had to have his breathing helped along. He made the Detroit News and the Detroit Free Press because then it was that big of a deal. Now it is not as uncommon as most people think.

My post was not an attack on anyone about the six month thing, just a fact that I know from personal family experience (and one pain in the ass brother)

because a fetus is nothing but a term used for the sake of communication, meaning its alive and in its developmental stage. Rationalizing terminology in order to free up you're conscious doesnt mean sh*t.

No man, a fetus is not just a term used for the sake of communication, and if you mean conscience and not conscious, I didn't know I even had one.

I guess the issue would be that we are preventing 19 year old people from drinking alcohol and 55 year old people from collecting social security, but you are (in your hypo) preventing people from living. I don't know...again the issue is not black and white and for every point raised on each side there is a valid rebuttal, whether it is acknowledged or otherwise.

This topic is the perfect icebreaker on a first date, social gatherings and grocery store line banter, haha.

There's too many people anyway. The more we get rid of or prevent the better.

No more candy canes for you:( Does that mean you are pro-choice or agree with controlled conception??

What!?! You can't take away a man's candy canes! I had resolved not to get into this discussion, I will just say that there are far too many people on this planet.

Oh but I can so take a way a man's candy canes . . . but you earn candy canes. . .I am now curious to your position on this topic, everyone is entitled to their opinion (even if it's the wrong one, lol). So pro-choice? Agree with controlled conception? As I assume you are not pro-life.

Well Hotlips, I don't respond well to threats, but I will answer your question. I am pro-choice. Also, I live by the idea that all things that needlessly increass suffering in the world are bad, and that which reduces suffering is good. There are far too many people on earth, we are destroying this planet and increasing the suffering of all living things.
