I should finally be getting a blood test this weekend, I will be able to see if there are any hormone deficiencies or imbalances which can be improved upon :)

Googled a bit and a long refractory period can also be caused by low testosterone. So at the moment it is either caused by prolactin or testosterone, I will have to wait for my blood test to be sure

Despite my young age and the fact that I go to the gym 3/4 days a week I might actually have low testosterone...I have never considered it before but now that I think about it I am constantly fatigued, long refractory period, and I think I might be developing moobs for the last few months (gyno)

Something to think about, but I couldn't possibly have low T, i'm only 20!

Any young, physically active members with low T on these boards?

Unless you are doing roids it's next to impossible to have low testosterone levels at 20. You would have to have a genetic defect for that to be able to happen. Or a very high stress level for a long-long time. I seriously doubt that that is the case mate.

Thanks for commenting on my log Schwing :)

I have never taken anything stronger than a protein shake so steroids aren't a problem lol

Stress is a possibility though, I have never "felt" stressed but I have been through a lot of sh*t in the last 5 years: EDIT *lots of stuff, no need to go into detail*

It didn't all happen in that order but those are the big events in the past 5 years, stress might have affected my T levels

Anyway, bloodtest will show me what is wrong

Appointment for bloodtest made for Monday :)

What do people think I should get tested? at the moment this is what I have:

Testosterone, free T, and DHT if it can be recorded (can it be?)
Estrogen
Prolactin
Dopamine
Progesterone
Luteinizing Hormone
Serotonin (maybe, not sure)

Anything else that I should be looking for?

This is mainly for my refractory period but i'm also curious about my general "hormone health" so anything that is related to sexual function would be something that I would like to test

No worries mate. All you need to test for, or at least should mainly test for, is testosterone, thyroid and cortisol. Those three will show you if you are under stress. Everything else you test for will be just additional info.

Just did the blood test, should have the results tonight :)

Tested for everything on my list except serotonin and dopamine as it wasn't covered by health insurance and it would have cost too much

My doctor was fantastic by the way, going to do a follow up tomorrow when I have the results :)

One thing I am unsure of though, if my results show that there is a problem he said that I could have viagra for a while if I wanted, but I am hesitant to take it as I don't really need it (my problem is refractory period, not really erection difficulty) and I don't want to run the risk of developing any psychological dependence...The doctor said to maybe take it for a while in order to give me confidence but i'm not sure if it is a good idea

Thoughts?

@ schwing

You were completely right about cortisol, testosterone and thyroid being essential by the way

The doctor said exactly the same thing :)

The results are in! everything is pretty much normal apart from TSH (thyroid) which is a bit high, these are the results:

Blood sugar 1.04 g/L (normal range is 0.74 - 1.09

FSH 2.7 UI/l (normal range is 1 -12)

LH 3.8 UI/l (normal range is 0.5 - 9)

Prolactin 8.5 ug/l (normal range is less than 15.2)

Progesterone 0.6 ng/ml (normal range is 0.2 - 1.4)

Estrogen 21 pg/ml ( normal range is 7 - 43)

TSH 5.72 uUI/mL (normal range is 0.27 - 4.2)

Total testosterone 7.32 ng/ml (normal range is 2.49 - 8.36)

Cortisol 17.3 ug/100mL (normal range is 6.2 - 19.4)

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So it looks like my previous assumptions were all completely wrong! lol My prolactin is average and my testosterone is high :)

The only negative that I can see is that I have high TSH, and FSH and LH are on the very low side of average while my Cortisol is quite high.

I won't be seeing the doctor for a day or two so does anyone want to try and interpret the data? What does all of this mean in relation to my refractory period?

5th update: 3rd March 2012

Weekly summary

Awful week for PE, I was at my parents house for the holidays so I knew that I couldn't PE as I usually do, But I didn't make any effort! I jelqed once, Stretched twice I think and I only did my kegel routine twice :( I also sporadically took my supplements and I started smoking again...

No sex, apart from last night, as my girlfriend had her period, so it has been a week long rest basically. Hopefully it won't set me back too much, the rest might even prove to be beneficial

I will start jelqing, stretching and kegeling again tomorrow :)

Blood test

I had the follow up with my doctor and everything is fine, my TSH is slightly high so I will be rechecked in two months time but he thinks it is just a temporary fluctuation as I don't suffer from the symptoms associated with high TSH

So, he concluded that my refractory period isn't physical or hormonal, he also said that smoking will have almost no effect at my age. He thinks that it is psychological, he hypothesised that I had difficulty once or twice due to fatigue and then I started thinking and stressing about it, which is the root cause of my problem. He prescribed me one box of viagra, in order to give me my confidence back, and I greatly look forward to using it ;)

However it will definitely be a once off thing, mainly because I don't really need it, and also because a box of four pills is 75 euro!!! I was shocked at the pharmacy, how the fuck do people afford to use viagra on a regular basis?!

If the viagra doesn't "give me back my confidence" he suggested a sexologist or hypnosis, I'll see how it goes

Thanks for reading!

6th update: 8th March 2012

Weekly update

Good week, I PE'd consistently, didn't miss a day :) Did my kegels on a regular basis too. I have also slightly modified my jelqing technique, I find that OK grip jelqs are easier standing up and UVs and UJs are easier sitting down, this is how I will be jelqing from now on.
I have quite a few red spots on my shaft and especially on my foreskin, however I have experienced no negative PIs so i'm going to take this as a good sign :)

I am also going to change my PE schedule, I currently PE in the morning and then again in the evening after class but I really need to study for my exams as I failed my first semester and PE is proving to be a disruption in the evening. So, i'm reverting to my original PE schedule from when I started in November, I will wake up, do my first PE session, go to the gym for 2 hours, Do my second PE schedule, eat and then go to class in the afternoon and study in the evening. Hopefully the proximity of my PE workouts won't lead to overtraining...

Basically training my body in the morning, and my mind in the evening lol

Thanks for reading!

An extra bit in regards to my jelqing technique that I forgot to add:

After every rep I hold a squeeze for roughly 5 seconds before beginning another stroke, this is probably the cause of the red spots. I like it though, really makes my penis feel "fatigued" for a while after a workout, which is good in my opinion.

Also, my overall goal is girth so squeezes can hopefully accelerate the process :)

Question regarding bundled stretches: You bundle your penis but when doing the stretching part (applying tension), do you twist and maintain tension or do you pull like you would for a normal stretch? It is called a bundled stretch so this question may seem stupid, but I am genuinely unsure lol

Despite the hateful tirade you launched at me, I'll answer your question.

You twist your penis by turning your glands as if screwing the cap on a bottle. Then grip just behind the glands with your other hand and apply the stretch. You stretch your penis as if you would with any other stretching technique. Start out with one twist and eventually, after your used to it, you should be able to get 2 or even 3.

Hope this helps.

Don't forget that my response was provoked by your inappropriate comment, if you hadn't said what you said I wouldn't have felt the need to insult you. Every action has an equal and opposing reaction

Nonetheless, thank you for answering my question

Insults are just childish... I think we all can be better than that. ...and an apology would be better... I never directed any statement at you like you did to me.

Okay guys let's kiss and make up. The truth always lies in the middle and both of you are too smart for any of this. Discuss via pm so a noseybody like me doesn't screw it up and we'll all be fine.

I consider the matter over. I'm only here to help others to better themselves. I just don't believe that disagreeing with someone's opinion warrants an insult. When an insult does occur, I believe, it should be apologized for in the same public manner that it was dealt.

I will do a PE related update later this evening, but for now i'm going to outline my new exercise routine which is based on Paul Wade's convict conditioning 1 & 2. It is composed entirely of body weight exercises, I discovered it thanks to this thread: https://www.pegym.com/forums/exercise-health-forum/40106-any-body-weight-trainers-here.html so props to malehanger for starting it, otherwise I would have never found out about it :)

Even though I could probably start on step 4 or 5 for each exercise I will start on step 1 for all of them and I plan on spending 4 weeks on each step before progressing, in 10-12 months time I will hopefully have made good progress. So this is my routine, doing both the "big 6" from the 1st book and the "shotgun muscles" from the 2nd book:

Monday

Pushups (plus 1 set of fingertip pushups)
Leg-raises

Tuesday

Rest and Joint work (trifecta)

Wednesday

Pull-ups (plus grip work)
Squats (plus specific calf training)

Thursday

Rest and Joint work (trifecta)

Friday

Bridges (plus neck work)
Hand-stand pushups

Saturday

Rest and Joint work (trifecta)

Sunday

Rest and Joint work (trifecta)

So I will be doing the Big 6 and Shotgun muscles every 2 days, and on rest days I will be doing some light joint work. Really looking forward to starting, the books were great and the programme looks excellent :)

Does anyone have any suggestions on how this routine could be improved?

Thanks for reading!

7th update: 18th March 2012

Weekly update

The week has gone well, I stuck to my routine and have had good PIs :) I doubled my bundled stretches taking it to 4 x 30 seconds. I've also started edging (without ejaculation) for about 10mins straight after a session as a warm down before taking a shower, it also gives me the opportunity to do some erect kegels, and will hopefully give me a better understanding of how to control the PONR by using kegels and RKs

On thursday night I saw an improvement in regards to my refractory period :) I had sex with my girlfriend and was ready to go again in about 5mins, we couldn't have sex a second time though as she was "sore." This has been a recurring event after sex for the last week or two and we think that she might have an infection of some sort, hopefully it will be ok, she will be seeing a gynecologist this coming week

Also, since all of my bloodwork came back clear and the doctor said that there is nothing physically wrong with me, I have stopped taking Vitex. I will no longer try to actively "fix" my refractory period as it is probably psychological at this point. I will obviously continue my kegel routines though

Thanks for reading!
