I haven't seen the movie but I believe it is allowing their partner to sleep with someone else. Yes, I have lived this. Each of us slept with more than one person. It went on for years. We only slept with someone else when the need was really there. It wasn't one after another, after another. Neither one knew when it was happening. We never knew who the person was. I did ask him a couple times how many he had been with. I decided I didn't really like knowing, so I stopped asking. He never asked me about mine.
The hall pass is like a day or week off marriage. The guy or girl is given the hall pass by their partner as a gift. So it's like having permission to cheat. The idea being the guy or girl will get the thoughts of having sex with other people out of their system. And will come back with more commitment than before. And although it would be cheating, it wouldn't be as big a betrayal because the partner is the one who gives it and knows about it.
Misty, sorry to hear about your situation you were in.
The movie obviously made light of the hall pass. The moral of the story however, was that it's not a good idea and appreciate what you have, because it will mess up a good thing.
I was just curious if this is something people tried or if its one of those things where everyone talks about it, but they dont actually do it.
It takes a unique couple to do this.
"Unique" isn't the word ... wow, I don't think I could do that ... Cheating, while wrong, isn't that uncommon and its a reality. But to give the other permission to do so, wow ...
if i had an agreement as such it would only make me more mad inside myself. strange really but i wouldnt have a problem with me sleeping with someone else but it would rip my guts out if my long term partner was doing it.
You would have a problem with it. You are a man, she is your girl, your property. Men still look at women like that as far as we have come. It is in their male wiring. They can't help it. They can try to repress it but it is never actually gone.
I didn't have the self-esteem to kick her to the curb so it happened 4 more times before i just gave up on her as a decent person.
oh surly it was!I am being serious in asking this...is it really a self esteem problem?
True. But if the need to go out and be with someone else is there for both of you, and you both KNOW it's going on, why not swing? From what I hear, that's (oddly) becoming a big thing and both people are involved openly.
It often comes up in fights at later times. It is used as a weapon. Many couples cannot get past it. Even though both agreed, they throw it in each others faces.
And the alternative is any better?
