I have no concern to educate anyone. If you want to educate yourself, google good Friday agreement, ceasefire Ireland,or even read about Ireland in the past 30 years instead of talking through your hole. This has nothing to do with anyone's constitution.

Wow! Hit a nerve I did. I have no intention of pissing you off a Kickin. Just a lot of out of towners not interested in understanding U.S. And I will educate myself. And. Don't know how old you are but remember from my post. I grew up watching the hell going on in Belfast every nite. Hosted by Walter Cronkite, CBS evening news. My daughter if you remember was trying to go to Belfast to do mission work, helping Catholic and Protestants come together, part of her charter. I was willing to risk my daughter to help.

Nobody's denying your knowledge of the past. It's the present that was being questioned.

It is the same present as the study you quoted LLN. It is not the same now for us just like you and KickInTheMebs point to Party. If you look at our nation from sources like this and we look at your nation from sources like these then we are going to be wrong, and so are you. Can't we just find common ground that does not require spinning from the media talking heads? Can't we just all agree that anybody who picks up a weapon of any sort and kills somebody is the actual problem? No matter where they do it and no matter which weapon?

Namso, you're right, I didn't consider, don't know, all of the various poltical, economical, social factors that are affected by implementing such changes. I was mostly basing my opinion around one thing. I didn't even realise the vast differences in prohibition between states, concealment laws, open carry, permits, licences, etc, how one state accepts permits from one / some but not others. A lot more to consider than what I had thought.

I still think it's something that needs to be improved, and that more awareness, training should be introduced so people can own safely and responsibly.

Thanks LLN. I agree the background check process needs to be improved. First step in my opinion is to enforce the laws on the book, not a strong reason to add more laws if they will be ignored.

Okay, very different opinions on the supercharged topic on gun crime and access to guns in the States.

The States seems to be close to boiling point in some areas with the race division according to the news and events over the past year. Any solutions to this or how do you see it panning out? And before anyone says it I know bad people will do bad things in every walk of life, that has been echoed repeatedly in this thread.

I'm wondering about some of the photos and interviews that have been shown about this psychopath. Photos of him posing like some kind of "hard man" with his Glock and another of him burning the American flag. Were these posted on social media? Also, some of his "mates" confessing about his racial hatred and plans to target a school. What happens about those idiots?

P.S. Happy father's day to me, happy father's day to me, happy father's day, happy father's day, happy father's day to me!

Nothing happens..:( Not one thing! Instead of people screaming for gun control they should be screaming for accountability!

The parents...
Friends...
Teachers...
Social Media...

I guarantee all 4 of those sources knew he was a problem, but nothing could be done without taking extreme action. Even then his constitutional rights most likely would have protect him, but leave the rest of us to clean up the mess.

His parents were off excersizing their rights elsewhere. I hope all of your children remain wonderful, loving people. Yes happy fathers day to all. Including me. Mean people suck and powerful mean people suck more, but the worst are all the people that don't stand together and stop the mean, powerful people. Just like Einstein said only para-phrased for my fellow rednecks;). Don't listen to the media. I bet none of you has seen me or my fellow millions, perhaps billions on any media outlet espousing the love your self and one another, and your penis, vagina, boobies rhetoric have you? He will you because it doesn't sell advertising.

Hate, insecurities, anger, licentious sex, those all get lots of comments and help sell advertising. Why does it matter if the justification for killing is race, religion, gender, or any other justification? Why does that matter? It is against our constitution to do these atrocities. I am going to shut up now.

Love yourselves and each other, make amends to each other and yourselves when you are wrong. I will do the same.

I find it odd reading through this thread that there seems to be an assumption that guns in this country are mainly purchased and owned for protection, criminal activity or mass shootings. Now if you look at the huge quantity of ammunition that is sold here every year I would think that the murder rate in this country would be astronomical. The fact is that the overwhelming vast majority of guns here are being used for other purposes. Why should responsible gun owners have give up their right to own a firearm because of the few that commit crimes.

Now everybody is concerned about the increase in these mass murders in recent decades. Well let me tell you what I think and have see first hand. In the 1980's I landed a job in a very large state run psychiatric hospital. At the time there was just under 3000 patients there. 10 years later I found myself unemployed due to cut backs. There was less than 500 patients there then. So where did the go you might ask. The state decided to place them in border homes, halfway houses or in other words out in among the general population. During my time there I have seen way too many times that the ones that were admitted, stabilized on medication and released stopped taking their medication within months. They were shortly after returned to the hospital, it was a revolving door. So now the patients that were there for years due to there instability were now released and I can guaranty that in time they also stopped taking their medication. Now if you wonder why they were admitted in the first place, the only way that a person here can be admitted against here against their will is that they must be a danger to themselves or others. So you see that the numbers of people with sever psychiatric problems out in the general population has greatly increased in recent decades. So yes, there has been a dramatic increase in this country of crimes committed by the mentally ill.

I'm pretty sure that no-one, especially myself, thinks that guns are purely purchased for personal protection, criminal activity or mass shootings. An article in The Guardian that is now three years old shows that there were back then approximately 1.8 million "registered" firearms in the UK. Unfortunately, the sad fact remains that the US does have a serious problem with gun crime, no doubt fueled by their availability. No-one expects the US to give up their rights to own a firearm, we in the UK have every right to own guns if we so choose, I could apply for a gun license tomorrow if I wanted to.

We also have a similar scenario with regard to psychiatric hospitals closing except we call it "care in the community", the politicians way of making cut backs sound acceptable and politically correct. There have been a few cases that in recent years have hit the news regarding psychiatric "out patients" committing murder, mainly using knives. Maybe if they had easy access to guns it could have been a whole lot worse?

Unfortunately, you do have a problem, the statistics speak for themselves:

firearm-OECD-UN-data3.0.jpg

EDIT: 1.8 million "registered" firearms in England and Wales only.

Dont ever shut up, it's still your right, rational thinking must win the day, for all. Government is great a making law for the moment, to get votes. Don't anyone fall for it. Gives Big Brother more power to control your life.

Sorry dude but that's just dumb. Sorry again. The chart is based on 100,000 people per incident, umm? Which country has the biggest population? 5 seconds, 4....3,....2.....?

I believe in our Constitution and I believe in the right to own guns but our problems would be solved with much tougher gun laws and we need them fast.

What we need to start doing is handing out life sentences to anyone that commits a crime with a weapon.

Our problem in America is the failure to ensure that guns are owned by only the responsible.

All firearms should require registration, even for hunting. I am not opposed to guns, I am opposed to ignorance and guns together.
