For me, the biggest issues are foreign policy, the deficit, and the economy, all being weak spots for the President's, though you mention a number of issues important to many U.S. voters but are really non-issues at the Federal level (the death penalty and gay marriage are both state issues and, as such, the President's position on them is irrelevant.) The Pro-Life/Pro-Choice "debate" is kind of a joke in my eyes because both major parties (including Obama for his first two years!) have, in recent decades, had complete control of both houses of Congress and the Presidency and yet have chosen not to do anything (no constitutional amendment, no executive order, no legislation) to settle the issue. (I suspect that the Republicans didn't do anything because they don't think it is the Fed's business and the Democrats didn't do anything because they like using it to scare voters.)
For the record, I am neither a Republican nor a Democrat. I am a Libertarian.
Still, I was expecting a move towards the center but was very surprised to see both my state and the country move farther to the left yesterday. It is discouraging for those of us who are not fans of Big Government.
Yarrr?
