A few changes have happened to me in the last couple of days.
Normally during the weekends I would either go to a club with a group of female and male friends or we would have a house party from Friday evening to Sunday evening.
This weekend was different.
We went biking in a nature trail. It was the best feeling I’ve had since 2010 (the last went on a nature trail). That is a whooping 7 years of indoors and man-made stimulation without reconnecting with nature! What a waste!
Reconnecting with nature was what my body has been missing all along. The feelings ensuing as we cycled through the woods were so refreshing, I literally screamed with joy at several locations. We visited a water fall and the calmness and serenity of the environment was breath taking. Having a ‘wallpaper’ of a water fall isn’t the same thing as physically seeing a water fall by yourself. The scent, the sounds, the humidity, the dazzling rainbow formed by splashing waters, the ‘wow’ looks on the faces of those you are with, the feel of the cold spiraling water, the 360° view of the environment, the refreshing breeze, the delicate balance of life and water and soil and sunshine are totally lost in a picture.
Now I can say with confidence that my porn addiction spanned more than just porn – I watched fake nature and in my mistaken head treated it like the real thing. 7 years of my life without reconnecting with nature! What was I really thinking?
I am now of the belief that nature is the true civilizer of man. I feel my spirit lifted in ways that I haven’t felt before. I feel a deep connection with life itself. What else has this digital addiction cost me? What am I missing that was freely available to all mankind before our generation?
I have noticed that there are a few necessities in a man’s life besides the basic needs: 1. Social connection, 2. Nature reconnection. There may be other necessities, but these two I have found to absolutely boost a man’s life.
I wanted to post more details of this weekend’s trip but I felt that there is no much need. What I can say for your betterment is that if you are feeling somewhat depressed, unmotivated, disconnected or imbalanced, try upping your social connection with other humans. Also try to really connect with nature. Watch the sun rise, watch the sunset, visit the woods, visit a cave, visit a river, watch the blue mountains, visit a waterfall, see the birds fly, watch the algae scramble to grow anywhere there is water, see and feel the spirit of all the other creatures that we share our world with and in doing so, you will find a whole new sensation that you had long lost.
