Hi, I used some aluminium that I had lying around which was 25mm wide, 70-75mm long and 3mm thick, the one I made was to suit the medium bell which will also suit the small bell, but if the large bell is used then a slightly wider piece of aluminium should be used to allow the bell to clear the rods on the extender (just measured the difference in width between the large and medium bells with sleeve condom fitted and was surprised to find there is only 4-5mm between the them), so around 10mm wider piece of aluminium should be more than sufficient for large bell.
Right here goes, lets see if I can explain this without causing too much confusion.
The rods on the extender are tubular, so you will need to measure the inside diameter of these rods and find 2 screws or bolts 25mm long with a slightly smaller thread size which will slide down inside the rods (my extender rods are fairly wide compared to most on the market and had an odd inside diameter size of 7mm, the only thing I had lying around which was close were 8mm bolts and 6 mm were a bit loose and rattled about too much inside the rods, I used these and filed the threads down until they fitted, if you do need to do this ensure that the threads on the end nearest the head of the screw or bolt are not touched to allow a nut to be fitted to each to secure to the aluminium).
Next measure the distance between the centres of the two rods on the extender, a more accurate measurement can be obtained by measuring the centres of the two slots on the white plastic base ring where the rods protrude. Mark a centre line along the length of the aluminium, with my 25mm wide piece this line is approximately 12.5mm from either edge, make a mark on this line about 10mm from the end and measure from this mark the distance obtained between the two rods and make a second mark, drill 2 holes on these marks to accept the screws or bolts and nuts.
Next cut the U-shaped slot to accept the bell, mark a line between the two screw holes across the width, make a mark on this line about 5mm from one edge (this edge will be the top where the slot is cut), the diameter of bell where the C clip normally fits and where it will slot into the aluminium is 20mm, mark a semi-circle slightly larger using the mark made 5mm from the edge as the centre of the semi-circle (I'm from the UK and a 1 pence coin was ideal for this), mark two lines, one from either side of the semi-circle to the top edge, parallel to each other, this U-shaped slot needs to be now cut out with a hacksaw and round or half round file and the edges smoothed off with a piece of emery paper.
Round off each end in a similar way and fit the two screws or bolts and nuts.
I hope this wasn't a bit too long winded and I have explained everything.
Edit: I use a rubber band around the underside of the rods and over the top of the bell to secure it.
Absolutely fantastic! Could you tell me exactly how you did that?
