Although I appreciate the response, that doesn't really answer my question. How often is "gradually" and by how much? I'm asking experienced users here what they've done and how they've achieved their best results. Is gradually once a week? Every couple weeks? A month?
I'm aware of the documentation because it comes with the device. I know it says the protector cap can stop being used after a while, but I've also read from users that they still get edema unless they use the cap. I also read from another user about using self-stick tape around the glans to prevent edema and also allows a quicker way to take it off and on again because, unlike the cap, you can still take a piss with the tape on. So I was just curious if anyone else has had experience with this. For the first few weeks, I just plan on using it for 2-3 hours a day around bedtime, which is what I've done for the first week. Then bump it up to 6-8 hours while I sleep (I barely move when I sleep, so it's not an issue ... I actually fell asleep with it on one night this week with no problems).
Thanks for the help though, I appreciate it.
There doesn't seem to be any hard and fast rules that I'm aware of regarding tension increases apart from what you feel comfortable with and watching out for positive and negative PI's. You have to remember that the PF is not a precision instrument as far as tension is concerned and that it is going to fluctuate during use depending on what you are doing. I increased from low green to high green/low yellow after a couple of weeks and have maintained this ever since.
I have no experience with the tape but I can see how this could be another method...either way, for me, it's just another way of achieving the same thing. I don't use the protector cap anymore and personally I'm not bothered by a bit of edema...it soon subsides.
There is also a general consensus from experienced PE'ers that NO DEVICE, no matter how safe you think it is, should be used or worn while sleeping...just to avoid the chance of waking up with a brilliantly wonderful shade of blue todger.
