Yep, my mom has a saying...

"You can't want more for someone than they want for themselves."

That's the third person, and when she's talking directly to you its, "If you don't care, I don't care twice." LOL

heard these growing up so the idea that everybody makes their own choices in life and they'll only do what they want to do set in. Sucks because sometimes you watch people with such potential swirl around the drain... Best thing to do is side-step them and keep moving forward because you'll kill yourself with grief and aggravation wondering why they're doing it to themselves.

Life taught me to never ask "why" when it came to people. You'll never get the answer that helps you deal with the pain of their actions.

hope your compatriot helps themselves before it's too late.

Devastated. Horrific. So very sad that people have mental illness which I believe can lead to addiction. Their life can be going great or their life terrible it doesn't matter their addicts it's awful.

Ever have one of those professors you kinda crushed on ?

I've had a few, but the only one That I can truly remember was a professor in undergrad. She was my English teacher my first semester Freshman year, I think. *starry eyed* I still remember her being super gorgeous. She flirted with me from time to time after class.

Well I stumbled across her on facebook. GOSH she's a lot younger than I thought and she's still just a gorgeous... Hasn't aged a year. Grief I would love to "reconnect" with her *rapid eyebrow raise* LOL! Sent a friend request and message, she'll probably never get the message based on how Facebook does messaging now (gotta pay a DOLLAR to send a message to someone with no contacts or else it goes to their "OTHER" box... nobody checks that box)

With a recent topic on these forums asking for suggestion on self help books it got me thinking, and then it took me a few days to make sure I wasn't going to sound like an ass I had to articulate my thoughts more appropriately.

As my thoughts ran through my head I stuck to the phrase "self help" and when it particularly came to seeking them out in books and thought "How could it be self help if the help you are getting is from an exterior source?" Now I can understand that the point is that the author is helping you to help yourself, but then doesn't that defeat the phrase of "self help"? If someone is helping you then how could that possibly be from the self?

(Do note that I have no problem with self help books, besides believing that they wouldn't work for me. Also getting no sleep over the night is bound to make you think of these rather stupid thoughts that, for some odd reason, must be posted.)

It's self help like paint by numbers or cooking from a recipe. You are given the instructions or tools and you are the person to perform.
I think self help or self anything is great. The self gratification from it does wonders!

It just seems odd that when the same teachings, that you need in order to do/complete something, are put into a book that they become self help, but if that person were to teach you that same information in person then it doesn't count as self help anymore.

In both cases, book or in person, you are seeking help for yourself and to improve upon it yet when the medium changes so does what you would call it. Now if both of theses avenues of getting this help is all self help then shouldn't everything from going to school as a kid to going to the doctor when you are as old as the Crypt Keeper be just as much self help as picking up a book on how to make friends, be more confident, or pickle various food?

Then dont do it, do it all your self and end up in a puddle of your own poo. Obviously your looking for help so who cares where or how you get it. The important thing is that one utilizes the help. You can have some one tell you what to do but you end up doing the work so that is self help.

I think you may have missed the point. I am not looking for help, I am just discussing something that I find odd, because I have nothing better to say on these forums and thought that a neat little conversation based on one of my dumb thoughts would have been somewhat-semi-possibly-maybe-enjoyable.

I can't contribute in many other ways, but thinking about these things in life that we normally take for granted, but not many take the time to think about it is something I can certainly do here.
