i think perception of decline is greater than reality -- i think it's possible China is sabatoging the american box office/ movie industry.. there's too much america hate coming out of hollywood these days -- its hurting the image of the country. China does hold a very large stake in the american movie industry & is enforcing removal of the american flag, or any messaging that makes america look "too strong"... reality is, USA/ ameria/ the west is quite strong still.. decline? hard to measure, but big tech is quite dominant in the west, and miltary is strong.. anyway, i'm late to this debate, feel free to debate this if you don't agree

Hey boys, thought I would check back. Is the sky still falling? Are we in a recession yet? Did we hit double digit inflation or double digit unemployment?

The US continues to do poorly ,I don't know if the figures coming from official sources can be trusted at this time . I expect further downside going forward . Generational distrust from allies will hamper US future on many fronts . Internal dissent
The West in general is showing resilience and some positive signs . Leadership is moving away from the US and is becoming more multi polar. some positive signs .
Economic decline in the US and other issues will cause rough winds going forward .

I'm not sure how you define 'poorly'. The figures are what they are, if you don't believe them then we don't have anything to debate, because neither one of us would have any data, just anecdotes. And from what I observe, things are improving. We are entering the Golden Age . . . . . . keep doubting and watching.

-4.4% GDP
-63 million American workers hired
-S&P total return up 18%
-Over 3 Million deportations and counting
-800k+ illegals arrested
-1.9M+ self-deportations
-96% drop in border encounters
-Federal government decreased by 300k job cuts
-21% Homicide drop, largest single-year percentage drop in recorded history
-Ended Israel/Hamas war
-Captured Maduro, ending the drug trafficking regime
-Destroyed Iran's Nuclear capabilities
-Revolutionized homeland defense with Golden Dome
-Supercharged Defense industrial base and arms transfer strategy
-Energy dominance
-Required big tech to subsidize their own massive energy demands
-Unleashed energy dominance via Drill Baby Drill
-Future energy security via revitalizing nuclear power
-MAHA health revolution prioritizing real food and slashing harmful additives
-Reset federal nutritional food guidelines for better health
-Revamped childhood vaccine recs
-$10+ TRILLION in U.S. and foreign investments

Lol oh wow the way you see the world is just a downright worry to me Ccb. . Of course it is a common view in the US and part of the reason the US will continue it's slide .
I am not in any doubt at this point but I will continue watching . Data coming out of the US I regard as suspect and going forward will look to external sources .

The US and Japan show major signs of weakness . Other Western countries are taking steps to insulate themselves . China is opaque . Russia and Ukraine buff said . Oil shock added in a lot of potential issues to be weathered .

That's quite a cherry-picked list of stuff. Putting aside all of the misleading and totally unsupported claims, half-truths, wild exaggerations and political marketing language, it's true that there are a few strong headline numbers, but the economic picture ain't so rosy. CPI is hot, consumer sentiment is weak, small-business confidence is down, and immigration-driven labor-force changes absolutely will tighten labor supply and slow spending and growth.

I am not sure where you two are located, but in my area there doesn't seem to be any slowing down. In fact, things are better than they have been and confidence is high and increasing. Interest rates will be dropping within the next couple of months so I suspect that will boost things.
Let's see what happens!

It's great that things appear to be going well where you are but anecdotes vary by region. I get that some spots are doing ok but nationally, CPI is up, consumer sentiment is weak, small-business confidence is slipping, and labor supply is tightening. Rates might ease later, but forecasts now say the Fed is likely holding steady through most of 2026. These are facts based on data, not feelings.

The U.S. is loosing the support of its European allies and is getting criticized by a number of European leaders, especially Germany. To partially quote the BGs song, Trump stated a war and now the whole world is laughing.

I am sad to see what is happening in the US and even sadder to see how many in the US support it . Does not help the West as a whole . On the positive the Euro area is showing resilience .

Anyone want to add a view from a country other than Australia or the US?
