Don't like it, at least the public option was eliminated though so I'm not infuriated but I still am not a fan.

If I remember correctly, Obama was voted in mainly because people were sick of Bush and the failing economy. He was "hired" because Americans were losing jobs and were desperate for "change", whatever it may be.

So far, other than some bs "green jobs" and "make-work", he has only grown the IRS by 16-17,000 agents. What American would vote for expanding the IRS? ...yet here we are, with the tax man regulating health care and adjusting our tax rates automatically if we are not deemed to be putting in our fair share.

Personally, I have a high deductible policy with an HSA account. I can pay the deductible with up to $5k in tax-free money. If I pass the deductible in a calendar year, I am covered 100%. Not a bad deal if something major happens to me. It's too bad that what I do pay out-of-pocket is not a true number for the service provided... it is high enough to cover over 15 million illegals visiting the ER for a cold at no charge.

I heard tonight that 10 states are filing motions challenging the constitutionality of the bill. Anyone know more about that?

I heard that four state attorney generals were going to file motions challenging it, but I'm really not sure if that is a legitimate challenge to the bill.

I think the fight will continue for a while and both sides will be watching the November election results very carefully to see which way the winds is blowing.

I don't live in the US, over here in Europe we have to pay money for healthcare, even if we don't get to use it. Sometimes I do have the feeling like I'm paying for all those sick people who actually benefit from all this. But then I think, what if something happens to me? At least I don't have to worry about the money. I never really think about it that much, because we can always go to the doctor and not worry about the money.

I believe that you are correct, Pegasus, and money is not the issue.
Personally, I believe that government should be involved in as little of my life as possible. Some aspects of government control are unavoidable (national defence, currency control, for example) but unless there is a demonstrable overwhelming need, then I think that there are beter ways to handle things. Furthermore, if government must be involved, then try the lowest level first and work your way up. Never start at the national level. We are far too diverse a nation to be treated this way.
Them's my thoughts, anywho.

You make a good point but may only be looking at this from one side of the stick. There IS a major and overwhelming need for healthcare for many in the United States. Many people cannot afford anything. All Obama is doing is taking money out of greedy bastards (private health insurers). Insurance should be accessible to everyone, not just us. We may have a different view because we have not been denied health care. But if you went in with a problem that needed fixing and did not have the money to pay for it, would you change your opinion? Many things can be controlled by diet, exercise; but not everything. I am a Canadian and understand the the US is 10x larger so socialized healthcare will be harder to accomplish. The point is Obama has a plan and his people think it can work, so until it fails, theres no reason to keep criticizing it. It could very well be one of the best things to happen to the US.

Only time will tell, but as a Canadian it gets tiring hearing Americans criticizing every president they get. Listening to the media and then blaming the president. Obama is a smart and accomplished men, looking to do good things. I think he has a good plan under his belt.

That's my two cents

I'm just hoping my children and grandchildren get some relief. They spend 20 % of their net (not gross) income on health care--mainly co-pays and insurance premiums, and the two of them are working three jobs. They are considering filing for bankruptcy since they have over $20,000 in medical bills. They're just afraid they're going to lose their home. They're part of the most rapidly growing segment of our population, the working poor.

Jonny one thing you have to realize is American's have a deep seeded distrust for government... and it is never going to change. It goes back to the founding of our country and the reason why we are not British. The colonials found the government back home was not keeping up their end of the deal, so they decided to break away. (Nothing against the English from across the pond.) And that distrust has been passed on from generation to generation. I personally think it has merit. Have you ever heard of the phrase, "Power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely." If you study the original way U.S. Constitutional was written and the role of what our government is suppose to take... we have completely gone against what our founding fathers wanted, and structure the constitution lays out. If anyone is interested in how the US was founded and the vision for our country, the you should read, The Federalist Papers.

I am doing my best not to get sucked into this discussion that gets all kinds of heated, and will only end in an agreement that there is vast disagreement.
I'll simply say I like what you wrote, and I look favorably on much of what kingpole has stated.
Anyhow, that's all from me....carry on.

Ahhh politics... It is tearing our country apart. That is why I suggest everyone become familiar with The Federalist Papers... The way our country was set up gave the states the power to set their laws... so if the people in say California wanted a state run health care, they could vote for it and have it. But if the people of say Texas were opposed to it, then they could stick with the insurance method of their choosing. Thus making everybody happy. Because you could then move to the state that fits your best interests and liking. This also goes along with marriage rules and abortion laws... you would literally see an end to all the bickering going on. If anyone wants to discuss the federalist papers in detail please let me know... I am more than happy to talk about it.

Are the Federalist Papers something I can get at a bookstore ?
This country is being torn apart from the inside , and no one seems to get it .
Where is the hundredth monkey when we need him .
It's painfully obvious that the emperor has no clothes . Wonder who that is ? (scratching head)

Just Google, The federalist papers... And there is a web site that you can read them... It is the very top website. They are hard to read since they were written back in the 1700's. I would suggest having a dictionary on had for the first little bit through them... By reading them alone you will expand your vocabulary enormously. But if you stick through the first 10-15 papers it gets very interesting. I will give a history behind the papers later tonight, right now I don't have 20 minutes to type.

Kk I see what you mean, I am probably a bit ignorant on this subject it was just my take.

So people are kind of upset that Obama is nationalizing it, because what really should happen is the differnt states should have the power to run healthcare the way it sees best?
I kind of understand what you are saying, and I guess the issue is that the states run that reason because they are so big as compared to Canada. Many states are the size of Canada or bigger from my understanding. I just think certain people and companies get way too much benefit and take advantage of capitalism.

I see a social healthcare system in the states as the best way to solve the problem. I understand Americans are used to more freedom and the states are used to what they normally do, but maybe that is the problem? If this works, the states could possibly change the way they view politics and government.

The actuality of National Health Care is in reality Limited Health Care.....

To explain in short summary. Their was no reason to bring everyone in the country on board the Plan. Just Insure the 40 million that don't have it. It would be easier to implement and less costly. All they wanted to do in "round one" was just get it passed and everyone on the plan. After that they will twist it to what was originally envisioned. Which will take a decade of amending the original Law. As for the standoff for taxpayer funded abortion, this will be passed and implemented. The model to which we will follow is "China's Model".

Mark my words, within the decade, when there is no turning back. You will wonder what happened to the Processes and Choices.

One last thought....read this link completely through FIRST. Otherwise the Slideshow will scare you. Then ponder why the worlds Cultures follow the mythology so closely. Judges where black etc. It even writes of a festival of giving gifts. Please click on the hyperlinks to really tie it all in. Welcome to the Century of Change. It is just beginning. =/

What Obama did was unconstitutional
Please describe what he did?
As far as the whole disagreement about government intervention not being necessary, explain that to the many people who've been bent over a table and raped by the private insurance companies. This country will never become socialist country because socialism doesn't work. Now citizens with terrible insurance won't have to go to Cuba, which is extremely poor, to get medicine. I don't agree with everything in the bill but it is a step in the right direction.
What happens to the person who disagrees with universal health care when they get a serious illness that the insurance company isn't willing to cover?
