Something that has been bugging me about this weight loss thing. Say I get down to a "healthy" weight, or 220 that I would like I suppose. With me being skinny, and all that, how exactly can this affect me? How can I use it?

Women will like you orders of magnitude more if you get really lean with a lean face. At 220 you will be just an average joe that good looking women don't give a sh*t about.

The health implications of that kind of weight loss are massive Dontrike.

Your risk of heart attack, stroke, diabetes & cancer are all slashed.

You will also feel (and hopefully already have started to feel) better - more vibrant.

Google it Dontrike, look at both the medical and also. The anecdotal.

You are doing very well. :)

Can't say I would ever get that far, but those are some awesome moves.

At 220 was when I was skinny and fit, I have always been a big dude at 6'3'' and I never did seem to go below 200, which is why I have that as my goal. Plus 220 seems like a more realistic goal towards the end.

The health benefits I knew of, but I meant general life changes. I think I may be trying to make myself believe that my weight is my only problem and it won't fix things that have no connection to it.

You know, Dontrike, I think there's more wisdom in this than meets the eye. A lot of people, myself included will look to 'external' factors for the cause of the problems we have. "Oh, if only *X* ... then I would feel better, then I would be able to do (whatever)." It's true, your problems won't go away when you get fit. They won't magically disappear. You'll be faced with the same challenges and the same difficulties as when you were 350 pounds.

However, you'll be able to tackle them all differently and from a new perspective. I almost wonder if you're asking people to tell you what to think, or if you're looking for reasons not to do what you know you should do.

I can tell you why *I* work out, why *I* care about my body, but that don't mean sh*t to you. Your reasons will be different from mine, will be different from BigO's, will be different from Padawan's. Maybe that question you ask yourself is something you should meditate on. All I know is that taking care of *ourselves* first and foremost before any other is of utmost importance. That includes fitness and health.
Maybe while you contemplate on the why factor, you should just keep exercising, greasing that mental groove that gets you into fitness. Do it religiously until you can figure out a reason why or why you shouldn't do it. If nothing else, setting a goal and achieving it feels good. Remember how you asked me what makes a person confident? Decision making skills and following through with the goals you set for yourself is part of that equation.

If you need advice on how to accelerate the process, just post and you'll get like 50 people spitting out their ideas. lol. They'll all be right in their own way.

LOL!

IMHO:

Your look at 220 will be determined by your genetics and subject to how much muscle mass and body fat you have. I dated and married a State Beauty Queen at ripped 5'8" 160. And years later dated and married another Hot beauty queen at a built 5'8" 200. When I was at 200 my body fat was in the single digits. Quarterly Hydrostatic weighing proved it.

You need to get out more. Go take a look in the streets and observe how many incredibly hot women are hanging off the arms of average-looking dudes. The way you look means 0 to a woman, if you have other aspects about you that attract them.

What the phuck are you talking about? 220 and skinny and fit? Either you spent thousands of dollars on drugs or you have no idea what is skinny and fit. I also don't understand your workout posts, what does the "lb" mean? Is that the weight you added every workout or what?

LOL!

Unless you use steroids that's impossible. Maximum natural bodyweight at that height and single digit bodyfat% would be maybe 175.

I have NEVER seen that. Average looking rich dudes - yes, average looking average dudes - ain't going to happen.
From my personal experience I can tell that my mind was blown how the attitude from women towards me changed when I got lean. Maybe you don't want to believe it, but try to get in really good shape and see what happens.

And while you're at it try reading this thread from the beginning. Here we have a young man that has worked hard and positive encouragement might be better. And let go of that "in your experience" line. You're still a kid!

LOL! Grass Hopper I never touched the stuff. When you live the Body Building or Fitness life style it's a Reality!

If you truly believe that then the majority of the National Football League uses Steroids. Oh that's right they are regularly tested.
Check out guys like Darren Sproles #43 for the NFL's New Orleans Saints. Running Back/Kick Returner. Height 5'6" 190 lbs.

How about we don't hijack Dontrike's thread? He asked a simple question. This is his threads, so mind the topic please.

Are you serious? You know that a person has to have single digit IQ to not pass those tests? :D

I have gotten lean. Have you? Most people will NEVER experience that. This guy wants to get in shape, I just don't understand the 220 goal, that's not a good shape is what I'm saying, unless of course he uses some "creatine" (nothing wrong with that in my opinion, although depends on where he lives).

dmallsick, you don't know dontrike, you don't know his body type, and from your posts on this thread, you don't know much about the complexity of fitness. If you would like to continue this debate, start your own thread or PM me.

If you continue to hijack this thread by replying here, you're going to have a 2 week Namso-siesta.

Dontrike,

What you are doing to CHANGE is to be Commended.

A couple of idea's for you.

1. Check into Bill Phillips "Body for Life" program. Bill Phillips was the FOUNDER and CEO of EAS Fitness Supplements. He also started the "Body for Life" program after his book. Mr. Phillips appeared on countless TV shows regarding the Body for Life Challenge!

Also check out his brother! Shaun Phillips.

2. Lee Labrada's Website.
Goggle "Lee Labrada at 50" when he posed for Ironman Magizine! Fantastic Training, Diet information etc.

Browse Videos training Videos on Labrada TV Browse Videos nutrition Videos on Labrada TV

I have an autographed photo below from the man that I keep in my home gym for motivation.

Lee Labrada @ 50.jpg

I used much of the information from the above two sites to achieve my goals.

Honestly the Body for Life challenge was TOUGH but well worth the results.

I am in my middle years and lift 3 days a week,
HITT 3 days a week and perform 400+ Hanging Leg Lifts and Ab crunches every other day. I have the Ab's to prove it.

Dontrike,

Success breeds confidence, self assurance, and more success. You have set for yourself an extremely challenging yet obtainable goal. This goal requires you to make significant lifestyle changes and your continuous attention. When you succeed, you will KNOW that you have the ability to accomplish large goals, overcome significant challenges, and work through frustrations and obstacles. Awareness of your abilities will lead you to solutions for other problems in your life. In effect, the personal growth that occurs during your physical transformation can fix other things in your life.

If you can succeed at this fantastic goal, you can do anything.

The most effective way to achieve a big goal is to break it up into a series of smaller goals. Achieving a smaller goal works in a manner similar to achieving your big goal. Each small goal will also motivate you to continue on to the subsequent small goal. In turn, these smaller goals act as milestones which lead you to your big goal. Careful study of your end-state will help you craft intermediate goals that will help you achieve your final goal.

Not knowing your specific circumstance or your past efforts I would guess a starting plan of actions and milestones (POAM) could look something like this:

Ultimate Goal: reach 220 lbs at 9% bodyfat

1st Milestone: Minimum Physical Activity - 2 months
- Cumulative of 30 min moderate cardio 5x a week
- 30 min of resistance exercise 3x a week
- 3 hrs of fun physical activity on the weekend

2nd Milestone: Physical Activity and Eating Habits - 2 months
- Increase cardio to 1 hr 5x a week, increase resistance exercise 4x a week,
- Park in the furthest parking space where ever I go, take stairs vice elevator/escalator
- Begin to follow an eating regiment that will align your intake of calories with your goal.

ETC.

So the first milestone is reached when you've accomplished the actions for 2 months. As you can see, your milestones are not weight specific, they target the contributors to your weight. Your weight is the outcome of your lifestyle, so your milestones should be goals that will help you construct a lifestyle that will help you maintain that weight.

Well, can't say I saw that many posts coming from me saying I used to be "fit". Looks like I have a lot of information to look at.
