I'm not American, but does it not scare you guys just how openly some of your politicians will talk about god, gods plan and what god wants? EDIT: I mean in debates etc. as reasoning for their policies.

I mean, your laws could be heavily affected by this stuff.

I say F*** politics. It really doesn't matter what or who you vote for.

Here in Belgium we had communal elections. (for the cities etc.) a big party won the election on a general note. what happens? the other parties form coalitions so the "winning" party has nothing to say anymore. There you have your democracy

+ I need to study economical politics now and even in it's handbook it says that voting hardly does anything.

I see parties doing campaigns with big spread sheets next to the street stating: "rapist? life-long!" or "death penalty!" ... Ofcourse, 95% of people will say that. Who likes a rapist? Or child molesters?

We need to focus on our welfare, not on the act of a single person (with all due respect for the victims! I don't say being raped isn't a big deal, but I don't like the way politics try to stimulate our emotions in order to get votes. We need to be more objective and less subjective.

Highly-educated people will rule the world. It's more likely that way. What can someone who is low-educated do? Not much. That's just my opinion/point of view.

Heck, I'm pretty sure 80% of all people don't know what some parties stand for, or what they try to realize. And then there's the media ..

I'd agree with that. The dumber you are the more quickly you'll accept information dealt to you, whether it's reliable or not.
Which leads to a lot of idiots voting without knowing what they are really pulling for, but that's just one of the many problems with politics.

Best bet is to ignore it and try and climb to the top as best you can.

Yes i've looked at the odds and Obama is the overwhelming 2/5 favourite with Romney 15/8 but i still think Romney could win because at the last election probably usual non voting black Americans came out in force to vote for Obama because they wanted a black person to be president; now 4 years on will those same people bother voting this time?

Remember i know nothing about US politics and Obama is probably loved by all you America people and he'll win by landslide. :first:

I saw one poll that reported Obama winning the Electoral College and Romney winning the popular vote. If the Electoral College vote ends in a tie, the president would be decided by the Democratic controlled Senate and the Vice President would be decided by the Republican controlled House. Accordingly, we could theoretically end up with Obama as President and Ryan as Vice President.

I know this is controversial but i wouldn't be surprised if Obama and his people are secretly delighted about Hurricane Sandy. He's bound to get more airtime and he can show America what a caring person he is, he can also show his leadership in a crisis..and i'm sure he and his people are secretly delighted about this. Of course Romney will be devastated.

Politicians get to the top because they are ruthless. Obama's no different.

I think a good rule of thumb regarding political conversations would be to give examples. So if you say Candidate X is untrustworthy, or favours a certain class of citizen over another, give an example to back it up a little.

This will help people outwith the USA get a better idea of what they've done with their time in office, plus it'll show that you have some idea what you're talking about.

While the appointment and approval process of the Secretary-General is outlined in the UN Charter, specific guidelines have emerged regarding the term limits and selection process. These include a limit to two five-year terms, regional (continental) rotation of the appointee’s national origin, and the appointee may not be a citizen of any of the Security Council’s five permanent members

i.e. never going to happen, so don't put your tin-foil hat on just yet.
