Quite contrasting things today, don't you think? Rather heavy stuff combined with eating cake.

Very heavy indeed. But then I like my chocolate cake dark and heavy also. I thank God for the end of Auschwitz and the Vietnam war. Thank you all who served may peace sometime rule everywhere.

I feel like the chocolate cake is totally out of the place here.

I think the cake provides balance, a good go to feeling as we remember the serious issues, and learn for a better future. :)

Violence always results in more violence, so let our soldiers protect what's ours and let's stop 'invading' countries. Of course, there's more to all of this. Let's hope things will gradually become less and less about solving things with violence.

An inch and 1/2 deeper than before
It could be that with such heavy hearted topics, taking a moment to enjoy a simple pleasure that might be taken for granted is a good thing.

In reflection, and celebration of it's end.

Or, some people just really like chocolate cake. Either one works for me. :)

1825 - U.S. Congress approves Indian Territory (in what is present-day Oklahoma), clearing the way for forced relocation of the Eastern Indians on the "Trail of Tears." (Another black mark in history)

1996 - Germany celebrates its 1st Holocaust Remembrance Day

1998 - Roland Clarkson discovers 2^3021377-1 (37th known Mersenne prime)
