OK I finally heard back from customer service and am now more confused then ever. Basically, they told me I'm trying to use the device incorrectly and that the arms should NEVER be extended (could mess up the device internally or something). Instead, the tension is simply supposed to come from adding the rod extenders/weights to the device. Does that sound right at all? I mean that would explain why the how-to video never mentioned adjusting the rods but...... IDK.

That makes zero sense...but then again, I had called their customer support once and the guy I spoke with was a complete idiot. He tried to tell me that tension would increase by adding rods and not from the springs being compressed.

There's absolutely nothing internal that can be messed up by unscrewing the rods. The worst thing you could do is bend one of the threaded rods if you did something stupid while wearing it.

Yeah that's what I was thinking as well. And the thing about tension coming from the extension rods is basically verbatim of the email I got from customer service. Which kinda means I'm stuck: if the company says that's how their product works, then I doubt I can get my messed up device replaced, as in their eyes there's noting wrong. And definitely don't want to spend another $300 plus on a new one.

Any ideas on how to take the rod apart to see if I can get the screw to extend?

EDIT: You know, just when on the QEP FAQ page and it made this even worse. The pic on their own site shows the rods slightly extended! Like WTF?!? So I screenshoted it and emailed it to customer service asking them why, if the device isn't supposed to be extended, they have a picture showing it as such on their own site.

The only thing I can think of is if you were to find 2 or 3 nuts the same thread as the threaded rod. put them on and use pliers to tighten them together, that ought to give you enough leverage to loosen them up.

Take a look at this youtube video: https://youtu.be/SkBpBQ4zIGE?t=35

I haven't used the locktite yet, so it can't be that. I took some pics of what the device is doing, as I'm not sure I'm describing it well. Apologizes for the weird angles, my laptop keeps reverting the format.

This is what the device looks like now, without any tension rods screwed out.

This is what the right tension rod looks like extended.

This is what the left rod does when I try to extend it. The screw unscrews from the base instead of from the rod.

This is a pic of both rods extended as much as they will, and attached to the base.

I think there's a problem with the left rod (ie its jammed or something) but I have no clue how to go about fixing it.

Hey. My QEP has had similar problems to yours (in fact, I still can't compress it all the way down to the first line, but I just ignore that and compress it as much as I can).

To solve my QEP's jamming issue I planned to separate all of the metallic parts from the blue plastic parts and soak the metallic parts in WD-40 (because I assumed the issue was being caused by rust since my QEP was sitting in my closet for years before I first used it). But I got lazy and just soaked the parts in water instead. And surprisingly that worked (and when I inspected the parts I saw that there was indeed some rust).

If I had to guess, I'd say the grooves in your left rod are slightly rusted and that's what's causing it to jam. You might be able to save it by applying WD-40 to it (or soaking it in water).
