Reunited with his dear wife Holly.
I see we're back up and running. So what exactly got updated?
Hopefully everyone's resolve to all get along.
We are a big family here like a house full of brothers. We push and shove and every now and then we get a little rude, but all in all, we pretty much get along and realize that this is a pretty great place to be and we all work towards a common goal, Penile Health.
So, keep on keepin on my brothers.
The members here make this the best site on the net.

Here's the original question posted by ta53ora:

Why is it that some actresses insist on calling themselves "actors"? I just don't get it!

Here's my original reply:

To avoid sexual discrimination in the industry (Example: Screen Actors Guild Awards).

A doctor is still a doctor, regardless of being male or female. :)

My second reply, to clarify 'Sexual Discrimination':

Discrimination in employment and opportunity against a person (typically a woman) on grounds of sex.

Reply from ta53ora:

"I completely understand the LGBT standpoint and also the fact that everything nowadays has to be politically correct in order for it not to be offensive, but that's not really what I meant by my question..."

Not once did I refer to sexual preference towards ta53ora but, only to GENDER

I get all that Aang...I've employed many people over the years with my business and had to comply with employment law and whatnot. But, with all due respect, that's not what I'm getting at here.

For example, in the UK we have "stop and search" laws which means that any person can be searched by a police officer if they have sufficient grounds. If that person happens to be a female stopped by a male officer she has to be searched by a "policewoman". If we started calling police officers "policepersons" just to be politically correct and not offend anyone that would be as much use as balls are to the Pope!

I agree tamora, I have no problem with people wanting to be who they want to, I respect everyone's choices, although a man would be not be a girl to me ( or vice versa ) just because "they said so", more evidence that the world has gone pc mad.

Do you mean to say actresses can't receive this actors guild award?

I used the Screen Actors Guild Awards to indicate, that they have chosen to call/name it the Screen ACTORS Guild Awards.

So, the award can be given to either male or female, regardless of gender.

And if women are calling themselves ACTORS, then they are simply being good ambassadors.

I hope in future, when I post something on this forum that it will not be taken out of context. :)

Ever have those weird moments....

Those weird moments when memories of people pop up you haven't touched in a while?

Had this image in my head leaving the hotel after spending a weekend with my lady friend. Had an amazing time with her that weekend, but the last few seconds I saw her face for several months... That kept popping up randomly today.

I left the hotel room walking down the hall and I turn around just to look back and see the hallway... kind of mental picture snap shot, and she photobombed it.

In the cutest way possible, she popped her head around the corner of the wall, her long brown pony tail swaying from the leaning action she did. She saw me looking back and smiled huge with a hint of a blush... That smile, even nearly 5 years later, is still clear as day.

Literally 3 seconds of my life...

Interesting how Long Term memory works... Keeps things locked in, very crisply.

I know that this has absolutely no bearing on anyone or anything...but for the first time in my 54 years I bought some of that "beef jerky" in a packet today that I've seen for years in the supermarket and always passed it by dismissively.

That stuff is delicious! Just like Pepperami's! :becky:

Good ambassadors for what exactly? I mean if no one is discriminating against them in the first place as they aren't being excluded?? And who is taking you out of context???

Out of context. Aang was not speaking to sexual preference. Rather to gender.

Personally, I believe it's called "The Screen Actors Guild Awards" because it's too much of a mouthful for presenters and whatnot to say every time "The Screen Actors and Actresses Guild Awards"...they'd be tripping over their tongues every time they said it!

Imagine my hypothetical scenario with the "stop and search"...the male "policeperson" would have to radio for a female "policeperson". What a load of bollocks! lmao

I figured that he was referring to gender, but no one was intentionally taking him out of context. I'm pretty sure there are lots of gay, bi and lesbian actors/actresses and they generally belong to one gender or the other. How many genders are there these days anyway? I don't get out much.

Technically there are two genders, male and female. But there are supposedly three others which are independent of the sexual organs you wee born with. I'm not going to get into the topic of gender fluidity, it's not my thing but I support anyone who identifies as such.

Agreed...no-one was purposely trying to belittle him...I thought we were having a healthy debate!

No doubt my next comment may be taken as insulting by some...but if someone called me an actress rather than an actor and didn't recognize my gender I would be pretty pissed off. Women are far too smart for that...so why lower themselves to our level?

You don't have to be. Just don't assume anything about a persons gender or sexual identity unless you ask, and only when acceptable. Nobody is 100% male or female, there are traits of both in everybody. And a person's sexual preference or lack there of is their own business.

There, that's sexual harassment prevention made real simple.

I would have said that's very presumptuous of you to assume that I thought otherwise! You seem to be looking for confrontation.

No, that is just the way I was taught to describe it without getting too into details or leading into follow up questions. This is not a topic I enjoy talking about either.

Describe what? As far as I'm aware no-one is talking about, or has even mentioned sexual harassment except you! What has that got to do with calling a female an "actress" to correctly identify her gender?

I would have thought that if you weren't comfortable with the subject that you wouldn't join in the debate.

I missed the part where this was an open debate. Seems like you took hold of this thread so you could argue with me and assume your opinion was was being invalidated.

I will gladly talk to you about anything you want when you calm down.
