OK Dontrike, I gotta mind bender question for you...What's the non-gender specific version of "shemale"?:becky:

Considering many don't like that term, I'm sure there are quite a few. For myself whatever the person says they are then that is the word I would use. For my 2nd girlfriend, who was a guy at the time, she wanted to become a woman and therefore was a girl from the moment she said so and that is what she was to me.

The word itself does denote a specific gender, woman that has a penis, so I guess it would be rough not to come up with a word that doesn't denote gender when the word you asked me to come up with one for is in itself describes gender. If I were to think of them not as their gender then that would only insult them as a person and their thought process, which I would rather not do.

Futurama used the words "shklim" and "shkler" when talking about something that is above gender in the movie The Beast With a Billion Backs.

I.E. Bruce Jenner? Or is that just 'she' now?

She calls herself a she and therefore folks should consider her as such.

Now, Kaitlyn Jenner and that's the way the old "Bruce" wants to express "himself" as a women in "his" new life as Kaitlyn. :)

Why is it that some actresses insist on calling themselves "actors"? I just don't get it!

To avoid sexual discrimination in the industry (Example: Screen Actors Guild Awards).

A doctor is still a doctor, regardless of being male or female. :)

Do transgender people undergo any kind of gene therapy?

I have been wondering about this for a while with the whole gender reassignment surgery, don't they still have XY chromosomes after the op?

One of my customers is transgender (male to female) and is in a lesbian relationship with a woman, they are both lovely people but I don't entirely get it and no I haven't asked.

Non gender specific shemale would be a hermaphrodite I think, not to be confused with Aphrodite the Greek goddess of love.

Here's a link, hope it's helpful. :)

I just don't get the need to make gender specific versions of other words.

I think the term actor has become gender neutral in recent years.

To avoid sexual discrimination in the industry (Example: Screen Actors Guild Awards).

A doctor is still a doctor, regardless of being male or female. :)

I completely understand the LGBT standpoint and also the fact that everything nowadays has to be politically correct in order for it not to be offensive, but that's not really what I meant by my question.

Academic achievements have always been gender unspecific because they reflect the qualification obtained rather than the person's gender that holds them. I just find it annoying when reading a synopsis on a film for example that sometimes I can't tell whether it's a female or male leading role and whatnot, which detracts from the synopsis.

There are many gender specific titles and personally I just think that an actress calling herself an actor is "political correctness" gone mad! What the hell's wrong with being called an actress for goodness sake???!!!

Examples of gender marking in job titles:

Policeman vs Policewoman
Author vs Authoress
Steward vs Stewardess
Chairman vs Chairwoman
Salesman vs Saleswoman
Comedian vs Comedienne

Boats are commonly referred to as being female, ie. "SHE'S a beautiful yacht." Should the boat be offended? :noidea:

Personally, I just think that actresses who call themselves actors are jumping on the "politically correct" bandwagon and should rejoice in their sexuality rather than lowering their intellectual standards by associating themselves with a "male specific" title.

EDIT: Maybe all females should have male names in future...that way we can all be politically correct and totally bloody confused all at the same time!

Discrimination in employment and opportunity against a person (typically a woman) on grounds of sex.

I get all that Aang...I've employed many people over the years with my business and had to comply with employment law and whatnot. But, with all due respect, that's not what I'm getting at here.

For example, in the UK we have "stop and search" laws which means that any person can be searched by a police officer if they have sufficient grounds. If that person happens to be a female stopped by a male officer she has to be searched by a "policewoman". If we started calling police officers "policepersons" just to be politically correct and not offend anyone that would be as much use as balls are to the Pope!

I agree tamora, I have no problem with people wanting to be who they want to, I respect everyone's choices, although a man would be not be a girl to me ( or vice versa ) just because "they said so", more evidence that the world has gone pc mad.

Another scenario...what if that person stopped to be searched by the police officer was gay or lesbian...should the officer be asking their sexual orientation before being searched? Where does it end?

Do you mean to say actresses can't receive this actors guild award?

‘Baba rainbow sheep’

Baba black sheep has been changed to baba rainbow sheep in some schools, in case the nursery rhythm could be deemed racist.

‘[No title] Jane Doe’

In 2010 the European Parliament introduced proposals to outlaw titles stating marital status such as 'Miss' and 'Mrs' so as not to cause offence.

‘Happy Holidays’

Many Americans now use the expression Happy Holidays instead of Happy Christmas, in order to not cause offence to non-Christians (who probably are not in the least bit bothered anyway).

‘Mind map’

The term brainstorming is now considered taboo in some schools because it may offend epileptics.

‘Chalkboard’

Much to the amusement of pupils of ALL races, some schools have renamed blackboards ‘ chalkboards’, to avoid (unlikely) claims of discrimination.

‘Deputy’

Some companies avoid the term ‘right hand man’, in case it causes offence to women.

‘Personal access units’

In some areas, manholes have been renamed personal access units to avoid upsetting women.

‘Vacancy for ..applicant’

A UK recruiter was stunned when her job advert for 'reliable' and 'hard-working' applicants was rejected by the job centre as it could be offensive to unreliable and lazy people.

It has ended somewhere, technically you should ask where it starts next.

Somewhere, Charles Darwin is rolling around in his grave having a fit because of his former theories about survival of the fittest and evolution!

Humanity is no longer progressing and has seen it's best days, now it seems we are more interested in telling people what they can do and how they should think. Free and creative thought is over, now let the programming begin!
