What is interesting is that love is different and unique with each person. When I was married I never imagined I could love anyone else. It was an impossibility. Then you say to yourself well DUH it has to be because people love again after a divorce. Trillions of loves occur lol But living life since the divorce I have loved a few times and each one different. I find that to be interesting and a lesson learned.

What I have learned is to be able to say that I love the you I have met so far. lol Meaning just because I am saying I love You doesn't mean its a flat out 100% whole constant forever feeling from this day forward. It has to grow and change and increase. So its alive! yes its alive! lol

The feeling I have with this man is completely different than my last BF and the love prior to that. I don't know, I am hopeful and I can see myself with him in my house living and sharing a life together. That is something I did not expect to feel or say to myself (well I have not said it out loud yet).

Regarding the age thing I find this very interesting too. I think I was under the wrong impression that I needed an "older man" to protect me. That is not true. I know this now. Just because they are older doesn't mean they are gifted with more skill or wiser. Example: new BF is very balanced with me. IQ, work ethic, humor, interests, wit, etc.. I do consider him to have a quicker mind in the safety area than me and exactly on par with my ex husband (which I still consider the ultimate protector). His age so far has meant only positives in of course the bedroom lol and only thing he has not accomplished would be the financial success but how many people do I know my age that have or even older. I don't care about that and I never have as long as they can sustain the life they live I don't need them to pay for mine type of thing.

At least I am open completely open to growing with him (I firmly believe I am lol) I do sense we are a bit lopsided on the love part (he more than I) or at least our ability to express it but that I think is fairly normal. Men fall fast when they fall and women tend to think a little more then catch up or go beyond later.

No one person has all full bars right. Not even me XO

I think when you fully let go of your past you'll be able to see all of the guys for the protectors and providers they are and not end up measuring them against your ex-hubby...

going up against a memory is always harder than actually being evaluated on merit for anyone, male of female. Just food for thought.

Just as you say "love different" well they're protectors in different ways. Open your mind.

You are right I am sure. I guess the problem is he is still in my life. Still watching over me and our child. Still coming up with immediate answers and solutions before I get a chance to ponder them. I love the man. I always will. May not be romantic love anymore but I love him. But honestly with the new man it was something I noticed early on. By the third date I could tell I was fine. Felt safe, felt comfortable. I trusted his instincts. I didnt say to myself and certainly not him "wow I can't believe you are XX years old and I feel like you can make split decisions that will save our lives lol" hahaha but the fact I even wrote it in that post up there must mean I do compare.

Do you really think that is abnormal though? I mean doesn't everyone do that at some point to some degree? Do we say "wow this person is as sweet as my mother" or "this person cooks just as good at granma" or "she laughs as genuine as my best friend Trisha". We may not say it out loud but that is how we assess and recognize things don't you think

I actually find myself removing all old things and try to base it on what I know a human is capable. when I start judging someone based on someone else's "attributes" i begin to remove their credibility as a person and that's not fair to them.

Is it natural to judge someone based on a past experience? yes... Evolved beings are capable of controlling their urges and so too do I try to control my urge to say "this person is not like such and such" or "i like that this person is more blah blah than such and such."

Comparing completely invalidates the merits of that person based on what you're looking for... however if you're looking for a replacement for your exhusband, you'll always be trying to replace him... Which, not to be personal, sounds like why you're always looking for a guy that looks just like him.

You drive me crazy lol

Well I love bald men and he isn't bald. I love men that are not black n white or draw the line he is like that. I love men that are not racist or homophobic and he is.
But I see your point. Finding someone just like him without the flaws.
Well it was over a quarter century of my life we had. It was great. It my was fault it ended. I liked what I had I just didn't love it anymore.

The last three men didn't look like him lol. But two out of three were Latin but not Latin like him.

sh*t Ronnie.

I really hope that is no longer the case because this new man is like me. We are not opposites at all. We are a great fit.

Meh lol

Ok the end lol. Too bad you are a retired mod haha

I find merit in this. I believe collecting and keeping memories of the fondest part of each person in our lives is part of the growing process. It is the collective traits remembered from each that formulate the ideal that we end up looking for.

LOL!!!Oh please@drive crazy

You always had to think when you spoke to me, or have your forgotten??

Status quo is never good enough ;) Always trying to be better than you were the day before. I'm not always right, but it's ALWAYS good to question your own motives as much as you do others.

LOL! Either way, good luck in your future endeavor. :)

Yes crazy! lol

Yea I guess you are right about that. If I am going to test the crap out of someone I should check myself. I think I do I just dont talk about it on here. I sure use the mirror test when considering things the new person shares about their life. I look in the mirror so to speak and say hey I did that or I know such in such did that and I still love him/her.

We are going to have to agree to disagree on the comparing thing though. I feel its a given that we make a wish list of anything we want in life. Stuff or people based on life experiences. So it happens that my ex hub appears a lot on my list but so do other people I have loved. Including myself :)

You know what is sad how two people in young love can be so close, so comfortable, so intimate with their minds and bodies and then months or a year later break up. It seems impossible at the initial phase of young/new love.

I posed this question to my BF who has had many failed relationships. He feels he was responsible for many due to un reciprocated affection/love and backed off. But most of the time he feels it is because women do not show who they are in the beginning. Then later in the relationship they show their true colors, true self and the relationship implodes.

I wonder if this is something young women do? I am mature and I just can not see doing a bait and switch. What a waste of time.

Anyway this is what happened to me earlier this year. The man I was in a committed relationship with did a bait and switch. Acted like a man he really was not and ended up having a melt down because he could not keep up with the man he was trying be compared to who he really was. That was so sad.

I wonder how many men have had this happen. Fall in new love. Have such a closeness with a woman only to have it fall apart due to the fake or bait and switch. :(

As the old saying goes, "Oh what a tangled web we weave, when first we practice to deceive!"

That's why I would never intentionally mislead anyone and hopefully they reciprocate in kind.

Is it really worth the hurt feelings and heartache? How could anyone possibly benefit from such action?

I don't care how great the "reward" is in the end. The guilt would kill me and would completely negate any "reward" gained from it.

I just don't understand how people can be like that.

I don't believe it is related to gender nor age, but more of a maturity (or lack thereof) thing.

Honesty gets you a better deal as the song goes (Raffaella Carra - Do it Do it Again)

But unfortunately, many people act differently until you get to really know them then get shocked, not necessarily relationship wise either. :(

I say, the only way you can be with someone one is to be with yourself first... If you fake out on yourself, then you know you're not ready for someone else. if you don't know who you are, how can you actually expect to be "you" for someone else?

Can't be more real than I am now. I may soften up to someone I care about, but for the most part, if I love, I love. If I do, I do. If I am, I am.

Sad that people have to pretend.

Years ago I had the bait and switch happen to me, but I can't say that it was truly a relationship I saw lasting longer than it did. At that point in my life I was not looking for ever lasting, and neither was she, but I was always myself and she tried to fake compatibility and one day I finally saw the creature lurking beneath the skin.

Young/New love I guess is wonderful, I fell in love with my wife the summer I turned 21. This was still during the period I was not looking for love, but this time love actually found me. We complimented each other in ways that make my sister in law cringe, she doesn't understand how two people can be so much alike yet different, and for each of our own shortcomings the other has whats needed to fill the gap.

During the early days she would ask me if I was only faking compatibility or if this was the true me, and i'd tell her there is only one mode when it comes to me and what you see is what you get.
