But it seems like the capsules are cheap. Often, one has broken inside, and has spilled in the container...making all the other capsules wet...which starts the breakdown process.

I'd return those to Walgreens for a refund or replacement if I were you, maybe a different brand? I've had no issues with mine shipped from an ebay store. They work great for me, and I guarantee they're less expensive, because NOBODY'S MORE EXPENSIVE THAN WALGREENS, IMO!
