The vast majority of people who own firearms are in no way in favor of gun violence. But the fact is that gun laws have not kept weapons out of the hands of criminals in the areas in which they have been passed. Washington DC long had a hand gun ban and was known as "the murder capitol of the USA". Chicago IL and Oak Park IL have enacted hand gun bans and have faced an escalating wave of hand gun violence since.

Virginia Tech was a "gun free zone". Didn't prevent or deter Cho from chaining the front door of Norris Hall shut and calmly walking from room to room killing 32 people and wounding many others, while some teachers bravely attempted to barricade the doors of their classrooms and were shot by Cho through the doors. But if one of those instructors had been allowed to have a weapon (appropriately stored) in their classroom, many lives could have been saved.

You see your post makes sense, one of the few that does. Here or nearby about four years ago a student walked into his school and gunned down the Vice Principal. Believe he wounded a couple of more before being subdued. Again the nutcase knew because of the restrictions that he could walk in and do what the voices in his head told him to do. By the way the Vice Principal was a retired Army LtCol. Imagine surviving 20 years in the Army and then being gunned down by a kid who doesn't like his mommy.
The Sullivan Law has done no good in NY, other than do disarm honest people. The Mob, be it the Westies, Mafia, Russians or the various Spanish speaking gangsters are very well armed.
Politicans want to appear to be doing something, so they pass another law. Law adbiding citizens reluctantly comply. The criminals and the wackjobs do not, that is why they are criminals and whackjobs.

Ban guns; people will still get them! Ban illegal drugs; people will still get them. Ban prostitution; people will still find them. Ban abortion; people will still get it done.Ban illegal gambling; people will still gamble. The comon denominator? People! Maybe this planet would have been better off left to the dinosaurs!

You're not going to use emotional speeches of personal experience to take away people's guns. You'd have to use guns to remove guns from people. And as always, the criminal element WILL have access to guns, no matter what you do. Banning guns only hurts those who use them properly which IS the majority. If you have a bad opinion of guns, that's all it is, an opinion. For some people, guns are a way of life, and violence is not. If someone is going to kill, they will find a way to do it, even if it's using a home made bomb, the ingredients of which are available to anyone anywhere...

Thought Brazil and Venezuela would be on that league table. Have they dropped into division 2?

One could kill mass amounts of people in many ways...guns aren't the problem. Guns keep the government from taking over...when the "bleep" hits the fan your gonna wish you had one.

Wherever I choose to be.....
Killing is illegal - stabbing shooting strangling - yet people do it anyway. This guy was intent on shooting and killing people, and if he discovered that it was "illegal" to own a gun that wasn't going to stop him. So I'm sorry I really can't buy that argument.

It may be cliche to say "guns don't kill people, people kill people," but it is a sad fact.

There will always be sick fucks that choose to use their penis for rape, but I hope you wouldn't be in favor of not allowing men to possess their penises.

You're right. There will always be sick fucks out in this world plotting to do God knows what. I realize this psycho was hell bent on killing whomever got in the way when made his assassination attempt.

I wasn't asking you to buy any argument, I was merely stating my opinion on guns and it's an opinion that I'll stand by until I'm dead. The comment "guns don't kill people, people kill people" is absolutely correct........and it's the ease to which any random asshole in this country can get a gun thanks to our constitutional right to bear arms that pisses me the fuck off. And this will continue to happen over and over and over and over and over and over again until legislation is passed to really put a halt to this senseless bullshit. My kids go to school each and every day and I pray to God nightly that he protects and watches over them because I have no way of knowing if one of their classmates is plotting to blow away the teacher and some of his or her classmates along with the teacher. This sh*t......and it's just that, it's sh*t, NEVER happened when I went to school and it's a very sad thing to say that our society has decayed to the point that it has where I have to worry about my kids going to school with someone who's got an itchy trigger finger and a thirst for blood.

As for the men who use their penises for rape, if it were up to me, they'd be dickless.

I think we can do a better job of keeping guns out of the hands of the "sick fucks" and still protect our "right" to own a gun for hunting, target practice, etc.

The purpose of a semi-automatic or automatic pistol is to kill as many people as possible. Bobby Kennedy was assassinated by a 22 caliber hand gun, I do believe.

It's interesting (when you do research) to read how people's opinions change when they and/or their significant others are killed or maimed by gun fire.

I think Sarah Palin is also one sick fuck to use the gun symbol for political gain. Such rhetoric can only encourage the thinking of a twisted, demented mind.

And based on my reading and research, the chances of successful self-defense with a fire arm are minimal, for most of us--unless we are trained at length to handle such a weapon properly--and even then, we are at a disadvantage if someone is intent on doing us harm.

Here in Ohio, the State Legislature is expected to pass a new hand-gun law to allow concealed weapons to be carried into bars and restaurants. It surely reminds me of the Old West. Hells, bells, even in the Old West, you hand to leave your guns at the door when you entered a saloon, etc.

All of this can only exacerbate a mind-set of fear and anxiety in a population already intent on locking
the bad guys out, rather than inviting the good guys in. It just adds to a vicious cycle of fear and paranoia.

I feel that guns do increase the amount of violence in this country. Everybody owns a gun for "keeping themselves safe". However, this weapon of "defense" can quickly turn into offense.

Yes it is sh*t, BUT the only thing that really has changed since we were in school is that there are MORE GUN LAWS!!
which take arms from honest men and give them to criminals!

W!T!F! PEOPLE!, MURDERERS! DON'T! FOLLOW! THE! LAW!!!! WHY IS THAT SO FUCKING HARD TO UNDERSTAND????!!!

Automatic weapons are essentially illegal in this country, and have been for many years. A few people legally own them but they are all registered and require a very expensive and hard to obtain permit.

Most weapons other than derringers, shotguns, or bolt action rifles are semi-automatic. Auto-loader would be a better term. This simply means that after one round is fired, another is loaded without a separate action. Revolvers are semi-automatic, if the term is used properly.

There seems to be some notion that this wack job used an "assault rifle". He did not. He had a 9mm Glock handgun. What he had was an extended (30 round) magazine. Extended round magazines were categorized as "assault weapons" in the bill signed into law by Bill Clinton, which is no longer in effect.

I could really care less if extended magazines are legal or not. The fact is, however, that a person with even a modicum of skill with an auto-loading pistol can drop a magazine and do a tactical reload in a fraction of a second, so outlawing extended magazines would do very little to prevent a tragedy of this type.

In the UK gun crime is on the rise in the poorer areas of our big cities. Unfortunately I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of it stems from wannabe 'gangsta' kids imitating what they see in the US.

Then again we had a random shooting spree last year where some taxi driver flipped and killed 12 people. I don't know all the gun crimes in recent history, but that was the biggest one in 14 years.

I might point out that you have very strict gun laws in the UK.

They don't seem to be working to keep guns out of the hands of those "wannabe gansta kids" apparently.

Is it true that gun related crime is up in Australia after personal handgun ownership was banned?
