That's not true. I was on a 0 carb diet for months so my glycogen was basically non-existent and I still managed to lift really heavy in the gym 6 times a week and do 45 minutes of cardio every morning. The body is good at using fat for energy, that's why it's the tissue is choose to store - in order to use for energy later. If we didn't have this ability humans wouldn't be alive today.

I wasn't saying that once you deplete it, it's NEVER replenished, but if you ran for a while and you depleted everything and you need to run again, you're gonna be much less efficient. ALso, carbs are only macronutrients that body can go without.

An odd thing, my neck was hurting quite a bit while I was biking today. Now it is surprisingly sore even though not much was going on with it. Is there a reason a neck should be hurting after doing exercise?

How long did you bike? Sore neck is normal for cyclists who bikes for hours I know that.

It was only 45 minutes, which is my average time. Something about today just had me struggling the whole way. I have never had to breathe that hard so quickly. The wind has also been pretty high the last week (Weather Channel says 8 mph, but I know for a fact it is closer to 15).

I think maybe I pushed my body a little more than I should have.

Maybe the draft made your neck sore.... That happens sometimes, you mentioned wind, maybe you were sweaty.

On your lifts its not beneficial to do them daily.. you should have 2 days in between each lift you perform so your muscles can recover and grow.

I am not all that sure. My breathing was heavier and it seemed to strain my neck. It feels better today, a little stiff though.

Yeah I think I pushed myself a little too hard so I am taking today off.

Biked about 8 miles today for various errands and if I tilt my neck in either direction the left side of it hurts. I don't really understand what I am doing wrong or what is going on. I wasn't huffing and puffing this time around, it actually felt easy today.

Try icing your next for 20 minutes on each side then putting a warm rice sock on each side for 10 minutes afterward and then start with tiny neck circles in each direction and then progressively make them bigger until you can stretch it out.... chances are that you are sleeping with your head awkwardly positioned.

I do usually sleep on my left side, but I have never had problems before, although anything is possible.

Your neck problem could just be from stressing a nerve or muscle. The entire left side of my upper body got really sore and swelled up after running once because I had my left arm anchored by my hip which put my body is a unnatural position. Maybe while riding you did something along those lines. Could just be your traps getting really tight from riding. I've also felt popping and soreness in my neck from deadlifting when I didn't have proper head neck alignment. Either way rest is usually the answer. Bike riding will stress a lot more of the body than just legs like most people think lol.

Thanks Bullet.

I looked it up some and it is probably the way I am riding. Which is interesting because I wasn't having problems with it until the last couple of time, although I am still getting used to this new bike still, it is taller and longer than my old one, so I guess I will just have to get used to it. Still not used to the resistance I am getting from the gears. I was on gear 21 on my old bike constantly (outside of hills and being tired of course), but now I am only on 13 or 14.

I'd say that is the problem then. Just like a new pair of shoes can make your feet, legs, back hurt. It's a part of exercising though, you want to keep your body guessing by adding different elements/equipment into your routine. As long as it's just just soreness and not serious pain, you should adjust and be fine. Good luck and work hard!!

Thanks for the luck.

I look forward to doing this again and as long as nothing serious happens I should make it there with ease this time. At the least I would like to get there 2-4 hours faster than last time, which I think will be easy since my new route doesn't make me walk 5 miles after biking for 25.

Okay first time exercising in 5 or 6 days.

I don't think I should be as sore as I am during my biking so the next time I bike I will place my seat a little higher or something. Also someone needs to explain the wind to me big time. I still don't understand how wind can come from three different directions.

Here was my workout today.

Alright not much biking today except to go to an appointment because the wind is gusting over 20 mph because of the hurricane.

Good job man, dumbbells can be great for the chest, just make sure if possible to keep on progressively adding weight onto your lifts. Lifting heavy and intense cardio will slim you down fast. When you go on your bike rides, are you biking at a fast pace?

Today I was running for some 50 minutes. Not too intense. My legs are a bit sore. I was expecting a lot worse pain... We'll see it tomorrow.

I usually try and keep a slightly faster than average pace. If I am not going that speed almost constantly I feel like I am not moving.

Right now a lap (3.4 miles) takes me about 13-15 minutes. My average for 10.2 miles is 45 minutes with my fastest being 35 minutes. Once I get used to this bike a little more I should go a little faster. I moved my bike seat up some and it was definitely easier today, even with the 20 mph winds, albeit still a pain since I am not aerodynamic at all, plus I do wear shirts that are a little baggy, only making it worse.

In the world of cardio, such as swimming, it is a well known fact for it to be an aerodynamic sport. The drag that you mentioned should make things even better for you since it's causing you resistance to work against; which in turn will help you bike faster in the long run. If anything, just make sure you'll always pushing yourself to out compete yourself. Continue to keep track of your efforts.
