Hey BW... 3rd here. Started at 5, quit at 16 (had to be 21 to go for 4th, so I stopped... plus the cost and everything).
It's never too late to come back! I stopped for a year to concentrate on running, but now I'm back. Hard to relearn all the poomse but they come back amazingly fast (muscle memory, I guess). I have been learning Tae Beck the last couple of weeks.Hey BW... 3rd here. Started at 5, quit at 16 (had to be 21 to go for 4th, so I stopped... plus the cost and everything).
If you're 3rd Dan, you might be able to find a school that would let you train for free in exchange for teaching the younger kids. I think it's really important to have a Master and other students to train with, I can't imagine doing it on my own.Ha... yeah, I was pretty good at sparring... I have 3 3rd place trophies. I would have a first, but some kid got me mad when he kicked my wrist, so I kinda punched him in the face really hard and made him bleed. DQ!
But I would have t buy all new clothes, new pads, new weapons, that stupid chest protector they wanted me to pay 50 bucks for, and pay for the membership. Naaa... I still have my book that I used for teaching the young kids back in the day. I can do my sh*t outside and on my own.
Why did you move around so much between disciplines? At to date I started in kyokushin karate, then muay thai, then judo, and jujitsu, I also tried sumo but didn't go far in it..

Wow! Very impressive!I stated 30 years ago and have trained ever since. I actually have done a dozen martial arts films out here in Hollywood too. Been a big part of my life for a long time.....
Funny thing is, MMA really has its origins with Bruce Lee who back in the late 60s was the first person of note to try and combine martial arts (since most arts focused on certain aspects of combat) to make himself a better rounded fighter. He took a lot of flack on it at the time since everyone was still "my Karate is better than your Kung Fu" and he wanted to just toss out the labels.
Then the UFC started with oddly enough the same thing Lee was trying to shun and had different arts taking on eacvh other with almost no rules and no time limit (a boxer fights a ju-jitsu guy, and so on). When the current owners bought the UFC they made it more sport friendly and taking Lee's idea, had the athletes develop all the tools to becoming a better competitor. In the last half dozen years or so, we now have fighters who have never studied a "full" martial art anymore but are groomed on all the systems in what is now known as Mixed Martial Arts.

Thanks guys! I love the training. Actually have nearly 100 old (and some new) martial arts books (dating in some cases to the late 1800s). I even own a few personal effects of Bruce Lee (including a letter he wrote).
Being that this is a PE site I can't list the films I have done (they were lead roles) but have made my living in the entertainment industry (non-porn) for the last 15 years or so.
You have serious fighing experienceThai boxing for 17 years and 10 of those competitive. 11 fights, 10 wins 1 draw all at b class. BJJ for 7 1/2 years, no grading though. Just for fitness and fun.
MMA, I dabbled with it for 6/7 years on and off. Was pretty good at it but in the lates 90's early 00's the sport was very minority here in Scotland. Would have loved to be up and coming now.
