Whether it's because I have a good routine or better rest periods now for 2 years, the fact is that I'm gaining lots of muscle every month which is obviously visible and I'm losing lots of fat, eventhough I'm only eating 3 meals a day and not consuming any shakes now. Yes, it works for me, and I'm not saying it will work for everyone, but I'm sure many other people can do the same, therefore having less man-made chemicals in their body and having to spend less money in supplements and tons of food.
Btw.... I'm also 220 lbs. and I'm doing just fine with very little.

Again, what man-made chemicals are you speaking of? You keep dodging that question.

Tell me, what man-made chemicals are in all protein powders/shakes.

less meals is actually better. 2 is optimal but i usually have 3 and a snack. the long the time before meals, the lower your insulin should be, the less your insulin producing organs will have to work, which will reduce your chance of adult onset diabetes later in life. it also allows for more time for you immune system and digestive system to clear out waste, and equalize tissue ph. yes your hunger may go up from hormones telling you to eat, but thats where developing proper eating habits come as.

as for protein. your body can certainly metabolize more than 30 grams of protein. but excessive animal protein has a multitude of negative health consequences. im big, around 6ft2 and 230lbs (dropped ten since my girlie went to equador to save the world), and i strive for about 100grams per day, at least 90 (on average per week) being from plant sources. i have no problem gaining or cutting at that intake. excess calories in the form of fat is much more important to gain than is excessive protein.

the reason you were cravinng more protein and were hungry was that your diet was so poor with all that crap that when in a state of catabolism (waste removal) the feeling became very unpleasant. knowing that the shakes make you feel good you continue to drink them. does that make them good for you....no it doesnt.

drink protein shakes, but use something like a pea protein non isolate. protein shakes are very affectively for body building. but they are not and very will be healthy. also since whey derivation from dairy, it doesnt mesh well with lactose intolerant (roughly 70% of the world). you can eat healthy and be a body builder. i would say its a cop out to use them in the true healthy body building sense

The truth of the matter is that 3 meals works for some and 5 or 6 may work best for others. Every body who has said one or the other is better is wrong. One is better for you, it may not be worth a squat for me. Some get fat with carbs and others drop fat rapidly when they cut it out of their diets.
I see everybody saying one is best, no my way is better and the fact is it makes those who say they know what is the best way simply look foolish. I eat frequently, I can eat a ton of food and if I keep my carbs low I lose fat, even while stuffing my self with fats and protiens. Put carbs in there and I blow up like a ballon.
If any of you have found something that works for YOU, then good for YOU. Dont tell me it will work for me, dont tell him it will work for him, it very well may and then again it may not. I also weigh about 220, I used to be able to eat more than I can now, if I eat like I used to I would be 350 lbs, this will happen to every one of you eventually. Have fun, but remember when you are posting what you think is the best way for everybody, I am reading thinking, ha ha. this fool thinks he knows too much.
Everybody just enjoy your food, if you need to gain muscle get a book, log your intake and figure it out, I did and for years I was benching well over 350, damn near 400 and half the time I was getting smashed and eating pizza, if only I would have had a shake!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think it depends on your overall goal as well. When I was powerlifting I would eat 4 big meals a day and 2-3 huge shakes a day. Around 5,000 cals. I had to eat that much to keep my weight/strength up. I did that for 8 years. I don't workout anymore so I now just eat 3xa day with a glass of raw milk before bed. I do think any powdered protein (whether whey or casein) phucked with my blood pressure though.

altered beast....nuts. eat 7-8 ounces of nuts per meal, and you can hit your marks. you dont understand how hunger is derived. hunger pains are never a sign of hunger. its a sign of detoxification.

the true signs of hunger are an enhanced sense of smell, and taste, and an increase in saliva production. that is it.

i used to eat tons of protein, but all of that can be substituted as quality fat. if you want to gain increase your unsaturated fat intake and aim for protein at around 75-150grams dependent on body size. this will make you gain and feel great. fat is just as important and more important hormonally for growth.

For many people trying to get in shape or bulk up quickly, protein shakes are part of a daily workout regime.

Protein drinks are being advertised as a way to boost fitness, and that marketing targets everyone from body builders to teenagers.

But, according to a new study, over-consuming some of those products could be dangerous.

Though manufacturers and salesmen say that these products are safe, the new Consumer Reports study says some protein drinks may cause health problems over time. The investigation found some contain things like arsenic, cadmium, and lead.

CBS News took a hidden camera to nutrition stores in New York City asking about these supplemental drinks, but not one sales person warned about possible health risks.

Some said taking more than recommended doses wouldn't hurt.

But trainer/dietician Erin Palinski says, not so. "They're actually going to harm their health if they do excessive amounts," said Palinski.

Experts say too much protein can lead to dehydration and digestive problems, increase your risk for osteoporosis, and for some people, cause kidney problems.

And now, an investigation appearing in the July issue of Consumer Reports finds that some protein drinks could be toxic, if you take too much.

Says CR's Urvashi Rangan, "We tested about 15 different types of protein drinks. ... And we actually looked for four different heavy metals. We looked for arsenic, cadmium, mercury, and lead."

Test results found heavy metals present in all 15 drinks -- some more than others.

Consumer Reports says three products were of particular concern -- because consuming three servings a day could result in exposure to arsenic, cadmium or lead that exceed proposed limits for contaminants:

Eas Myoplex (Arsenic, Cadmium)*
Muscle Milk-Chocolate (Cadmium, Lead)*
Muscle Milk-Vanilla Crème (Lead)

Urvashi Rangan, Consumer Reports, said, "What we're concerned about here is the chronic low level exposure of a heavy metal. And what people should know, is that heavy metals, once they come into our bodies, once they're metabolized, they tend to stay there for a long period of time."

The supplement industry disputes claims that protein shakes could be harmful.

Andrew Shao, of the Council for Responsible Nutrition, says, "The results of this analysis aren't alarming. The heavy metals that were found are well below the limits FDA (Food and Drug Administration) would be concerned about, so they don't pose a health risk to consumers at all."

But Consumer Reports says there is little regulation requiring manufacturers to prove their protein drinks are safe.

"We think the FDA should be tracking these products better," says Rangan, "and that is not happening at this time."

The manufacturers of those three products say independent testing shows their products are within government safety standards even if taken three times a day.

Still, CR notes there other ways to get protein at a cheapter price, such as:

Half a chicken breast (27 grams of protein, 62 cents per serving)*
Three glasses of milk (23 grams of protein, 60 cents per serving)*
Three scrambled eggs (20 grams of protein, 46 cents per serving)

I have never gained so much muscle and lost so much fat until I STOPPED taking protein shakes. They are poison for your body and they are not as effective as real food after a workout.
Do you know exactly what kind of useless chemicals you are putting in your body? No, you don't.
They just make you fat and unhealthy.
Real food after a workout has made me gain huge lean muscles and I'm finally seeing the beginnings of a great sixpack and obliques. Wanna keep wasting your money, health and time? Keep making those companies richer and richer...
Go ahead.

Im highly allergic to these I break out in spots from using them even more than I do with steroids, usually when I use steroids they come up on my shoulders and back but when I use protein they come on my chest face and neck. They actually stop me from gaining weight because they suppress my appetite

Eat too much of anything and it becomes unhealthy.

Your links, one seems to be down and the other is just utter bullshit. And I mean Penn&Teller Bullshit. I could quote so many parts that are just wrong and misleading. Great stuff!

It's cool.... go ahead and trust the FDA and keep taking "safe" supplements and just pray that those man-made products don't have anything harmful in them. Yeah, lots of things are man-made and can be bad for you... but do you wanna add one more that you take pretty much daily and that is not really needed.
No thanx, I'll pass.

"Consumer Reports says there is little regulation requiring manufacturers to prove their protein drinks are safe."

"We think the FDA should be tracking these products better," says Rangan, "and that is not happening at this time."

bith whey and casein are condensed, concentrated versions of dairy protein. dairy protein has already been know to be highly dangerous and to cause a variety of different cancers, among other issues. so obviously it makes sense that protein shakes are even worse than dairy. the stuff is terrible for you
