Hi
I have been seeing doctors about my ED for nearly a year now. They have not found the cause.

I have had hormone blood tests and all the usual questions.

I am 23 and had this problem for about 4-5 years. I have only had 1 girlfriend in that time, and we could have sex most times, but I don't get a very good erection and it only lasts maybe 5-10 minutes. I am generally healthy and active.

I have tried 20mg Cialis and there was minimal improvement. I have now been subscribed 5mg Cialis once a day for a month. I am halfway through, and I can get a reasonable erection but it is still far from perfect and I am worried it will not last after the pills run out in 2 weeks. There was improvement for about 3 days after starting to take the cialis and since then it has not improved.

In the 4 years or so i have never had a 100% erection, but often wake up with a 'semi'. For this reason doctors have ruled out phycological reasons, is this correct? I used to watch porn to masterbate, but now don't.

So for the last 2 weeks I have taken 5mg Cialis once a day, which has helped a bit. For the last week I have taken zinc tablets and green tea capsules, no apparent effect. I will take ginger and ginsing tablets for the next week, and try ginko biloba after that? Is a week long enough to try each one?

I hope this makes sense. I thought I would ask as there seems to be a lot of knowledge in this forum, I'm just a bit confused about the whole thing!

Have you seen a urologist?

I would go back to the urologist, explain to him nicely that something is wrong if a young man can't get an erection, and request more tests: ie a doppler or the like. In fact I would seek out the opinion of a different urologist as this guy that sent to back to your gp without a diagnosis doesn't seem to care!

Thanks.
Yes he didn't seem very keen to help. I am seeing my GP in a week and will ask to be referred to a different urologist.
What is a Doppler?

I agree with yoru plan ed. and Cusps' advice is good too.

In the meantime, maybe I can tell you to kegel while you wait for doctor's appointments. I remember when I was in your same exact position. While it may not work in your situation, I wish someone had really grilled into my head to try kegels as they helped me.

It's free and doesn't require a prescription. It's 100% natural, and non-invasive. wooo

Oh ... just around ...
And as far as the supplements, it's going to take a bit for them to get into your system before you see any real improvement. Give it a couple more weeks of consistent use and hopefully you should see something. You may want to consider adding Ginkgo Biloba as well to help increase bloodflow.

Can doing kegels do any harm? Maybe if you do them wrong?
I think I used to do them alot, and it's hard to explain but kind of feels there may be something wrong with the muscle down there. I find it slightly difficult to push out the last bit of wee.

Gettinthereok-
thanks, I was not sure how soon to expect results. I didn't want to change too much too soon, so will add ginko in a week.

Cusp-
I will ask for more tests, but I don't know what they can keep testing for!? They seem to have tested a lot already.

Thanks for the replies.

Hmmm , sometimes kegel routines that do not contain reverse kegels, can worsen (and perhaps cause) pelvic floor issues.
It seems to cause (or worsen) an excess of tension, an imbalance.

In your case I suggest a kegel routine with 70% plus revers kegels, this will strengthen and relax your pelvic floor.

That is interesting, I can't describe it but I thought from the start it was to do with muscles, and an 'imbalance' describes it quite well I think. I did kegels from a young age, but without reading a proper way to do them, and have never done reverse kegels.

So is there a good link or something on how to do reverse kegels, and how many, how often etc? Are there any 'do nots' with kegels and reverse kegels (such as keep leg and stomach muscles relaxed)? how long would you expect to see results from this? I know it would vary a lot.

Thanks
C

EDIT: just remembered when I first got ED I found out about kegels on the internet ( no reverse) and it may have helped for the first day or 2 from starting them, but then it may have seemed to make the problem worse?

Also masterbation, should I do it as much as possible/ whenever I fancy it to get used to a better erection while I am on Cialis, or should I 'save up' my sexual energy/rest as much as possible!?

Forcing out a piss is a reverse kegel of sorts. Over time one should attempt to increase isolation (eg relax stomach muscles).
I believe in balance berween kegeks and reverse K. There is much discussion on reverse on this site especially the pre e forum.

Hi,
I can do it, but only tensing other muscles especially the stomach a lot. I will work on trying to isolate it a bit more like I can with kegels.
I have found many threads about reverse kegels, but no 'how to' guide or similar. Do you hold this feeling, or tense/ relax repeatedly?

Thanks

How long can you hold a reverse kegel? You can start with short contractions and work towards longer ones.

I think about 5 seconds, maybe 10. But with no control, I have to push out lower stomach, tense upper stomach etc.
Normal kegels maybe 30seconds or so, and with some control, don't think I use stomach muscles at all, and can almost separate penis from anus squeezing.

Hi, I have been thinking a lot. I think there should be a sticky in this ED forum about reverse kegels/pelvic floor imbalance/involuntary kegels! I don't have PreE so didn't look in that forum, but I think they are important in my ED.

It's been so long I forgot: when I first got ED and went to the doctors I thought it was to do with the muscles down there, but this was dismissed by doctors looking at hormones etc.

I have involuntary kegels when I masterbate, and when I go for a piss. I am going to try to break these habits, and practice reverse kegels, probably 1 day on 1 day off.

I feel this all makes sense to me, and feel ths will help me a lot.

The docs don't know it all and can be arrogent. Keep me informed, yours is something of a test case.

I will do, I have a lot to work on, but I think this is the main cause.

Dawn- thanks, yes I wish I had come here sooner! I have found doctors to be nothing short of useless, with lots of conflicting advise.

Many Urologists specialize in prostate and urinary problems and are not that knowledgeable on ED issues, unless it involves an implant that can generate major fees. Try searching for a male sexual dysfunction specialist in your area. In the meantime, follow some of the good advice being given here and eliminate, or at least cut back, on smoking and alcohol. Maintain a healthy diet (organic if possible) and combine it with a good exercise program. Many have eliminated their ED and achieved good erections without the use of pills by following a healthy life style.
