Wholesale outing of government and corporate corruption. I am shocked on a daily basis with what is made known. The peasants now have a tool in which to make their voices heard and hold governments and corporations accountable for their crimes and BS. I support this 110% We are not slaves to these sadistic bastards, 1,300+ Wikileak mirrors already running, welcome to a new world. There is hope for the people yet!

I can't wait to watch that show with Jesse Ventura starting tomorrow at 10pm central on the channel called "TruTV" I think it is. It called "Conspiracy Theory".

Apparently he really exposes similar stuff. Should be GREAT!

While true 'transparency' is still not something that really exists, do you not see the real damage this stuff could do? Just tossing it out there ...
It could do some damage, yes. But governments being able to hide and suppress all information at will could, and is, causing even more damage.

Especially in closed countries such as the US, which is responsible for hundreds of thousands of civilian deaths. With proper information and general knowledge, that number could be reduced, as I doubt the general public in said country is behind such endeavours.

There is no easy solution. The powers that be will spew their fud about national security, protecting the empire at all costs, countless lives at risk etc.. but most people are not buying this. The powers that be are scared of the internet for a reason and at this very moment they are making moves to lock it down China style. They will fail, the Genie is out of the bottle and there is no getting it back in. Would you rather bury your head in the sand and not know about 1,000's of wrong doings by governments and corporations of the world? For example:

Many of DynCorp's employees are ex-Green Berets and veterans of other elite units, and the company was commissioned by the US government to provide training for the Afghani police. According to most reports, over 95 percent of its $2 billion annual revenue comes from US taxpayers.
And in Kunduz province, according to the leaked cable, that money was flowing to drug dealers and pimps. Pimps of children, to be more precise. (The exact type of drug was never specified.)
Since this is Afghanistan, you probably already knew this wasn't a kegger. Instead, this DynCorp soiree was a bacha bazi ("boy-play") party, much like the ones uncovered earlier this year by Frontline.

For those that can't or won't click the link, bacha bazi is a pre-Islamic Afghan tradition that was banned by the Taliban. Bacha boys are eight- to 15-years-old. They put on make-up, tie bells to their feet and slip into scanty women's clothing, and then, to the whine of a harmonium and wailing vocals, they dance seductively to smoky roomfuls of leering older men.
After the show is over, their services are auctioned off to the highest bidder, who will sometimes purchase a boy outright. And by services, we mean anal sex.

There are some things that should not be brought to light. The world is too complex for true transparency. Too complex for the simple minds who support this guy. This guy and everyone else who thinks it's ok to make confidential documents public domain should be held accountable for the ramifications. I would love to wrap my hands around the neck of this wikileaks guy, and crush his windpipe until the life leaves his eyes and his heart stops beating. It wouldn't surprise me if a lot of what is on wikileaks is make up or overly dramatized. In fact, I would expect it.

Don't give me that crap. There wouldn't be as many civilian casualties if the enemy wasn't using hospitals and children as meat shields. Besides, I would gladly trade 100,000 civilian deaths in the middle east to stop the threat of the muslim religion plague. They started this sh*t, I have no issue with finishing it, even if it means turning their desert into a large sheet of glass.

Wow. What an embarrassing thing to say. It's never too late to get informed and ditch being a mindless sheep.

I'm not embarrassed. I was young and dumb once and didn't understand the way the world really works, like you.

You believe whatever they post and don't question it, if that's not mindless sheep, then what is?

I'm middle aged and certainly not dumb. The way the world works is broken if you haven't noticed.. Why? All out corruption, a disease that has taken hold in every facet of our lives. I don't know you, sounds like you are one of the types not wanting to be exposed. Once powerless to do anything about it the internet is now exposing these bastards for what they are, they don't give a flying fuck about us so I say take them down. I can tell by your jab at "Muzzies" that you are in the Tea Party, a party that is anti-government and anti-corruption yet here you are fighting for big government so what gives?

I haven't heard any denials of what was posted. The calls to assassinate him only show that it's legit information.

I can't believ that there are people out there that don't care about civilian casualties to protect so called "national security". Say my country thought u were a threat and began bombin the crap out of, lieing about the reasons we were doin it, killing ur mother, sisters brothers. That kind of mindset I can't understand. But that's ok we are all allowed our opinions

The governments of the western world have been behaving like this for 100s of years, all for greed money, power and world dominance. Now with the internet the people have access to information of all the attrocities committed by the western world dictators. Now a bunch of people start informing the world of the misconduct and they are trying to shoot them down. The media will try and destroy julian assanges credibility. This is what the media does. Its been doing it for years. Shoot the messenger, not the message. People have to look beyond that and actually inspect and focus on the information. This is an important time, they can't stip it now. People are waking up.

Tea Party? yeah, maybe.. but I had this tattoo of the Knights Templar on my arm way before the Tea Party existed.

You complain about the governments of the west, without acknowledging that that way is how EVERY major government in HISTORY of the world has worked! If not for money or power, for the ability to control what people think and believe.

If you think your country can do it and survive then go for it. Everyone has a different perception. Remember, history is written by the winners. Can you link me to anything specific talking about the atrocities of western dictators? What specifically are you talking about?

I don't know what credibility you think Mr. Assanges has, but the man is guilty of international espionage and will be put to death for it more than likely. He paid for classified documents and put them on the internet. You think he's going to get away from that?

I never specifically mentioned the "West", I am against any corrupt entity that is screwing people over. Now that they are being exposed for what they are, they don't like it one bit. Just look at them flipping out, it's almost comical. They are in a complete panic that they are losing control of us peasants.

Nobody is flipping out or panicking about anything. That would be the media stirring up drama if that's what you are seeing. This is just nipping a potential future problem in the bud.

Oh ... just around ...
Okay folks ... let's try and take it down a notch ...

Anyway, Stretch does have (a little) legitimacy to his beef and I happen to share the concern. There are simply some things that should NEVER come to light about how things operate in government - I dare not call them "simple," but many folk just would not and do not have the capacity to really understand the bureaucratic crap that go on behind closed doors. Look at the case of the CIA agent that had her name/cover blown - incidents like that puts peoples lives at risk and I think that's the thing people really miss. Sure you want to see who's behind the curtain pulling the strings but at the same time, you MUST consider those that are out there in the field in harm's way working to protect the very freedoms you enjoy.

I think you all should stop and read this>>> What Crime?

It explains that the guy is actually not violating the Espionage act Section 793, since "publishing" is not listed as illegal.

The other side is saying that in Section 794b, the word "publish" is used, and, to quote this article, "Yet this statute applies only to information that is published with intent to deliver it to the enemy, a fact any prosecutor would have to prove beyond a reasonable doubt."

Oh sure, I agree up to a point that some data needs to be classified and have no beef with that. But lately EVERYTHING is classified, everything is a matter of national security.. just keep your head down, do as you are told or you are a traitor. If you see something, say something lol puhleez, what is happening to America?

I am not talking about releasing the plans for military planes under construction at Area51. I'm talking about gross misuse of power, corrupt corporate influence of government(s) and outright lies to the people. That is important for me to know and I can only feel sorry for those who want to bury their heads in the sand and take the 'out of sight out of mind' route. I want my child to live in a free society and under governments that are held accountable.

The real issue here is that many Americans are draped in the flag, so any negativity towards America is met with rabid hostility. The whole "nobody talks bad bout Murca or we'll turn em to glass" mindset. It's time to move past this and join the international community demanding appropriate government and corporate behavior. Just my 3c

Governments do not deserve, and have proven they will abuse, any power that is given to them. Putting the power back into the hands of the people should be paramount. In this day in age, there is no need for the archaic practices of hiring people to represent us. Instead, maybe we should move to have a more secure voting system that would allow all to really weigh in to the issues.

Our civil liberties are disappearing at an alarming rate in the name of "keeping us safe". That worries me more than the repercussions of wiki leaks.
