Just a friendly reminder about negative reps.

They are to be used when some one has been rude or has conducted themselves in such a fashion that they DESERVE a negative rep. Not because we dont believe what they say or we do not agree with them. We can see what neg reps are given for and by whom they are given. Furthermore a neg rep with a nasty comment is even further abusing the system. I am asking all who abuse this system to think before you neg rep because they do get noticed and if it is an ancalled for neg rep you will end up getting infracted and it will probably hurt you more than it hurts the guy or gal who you gave a negative rep to.

Have a great weekend and stay safe!

Hey BigO, thanks for the reminder. Do you have a link or can you direct us to the place where abuses of the rep system were first explicitly laid out?

The Golden Rule - The most important rule. Treat others with respect. There is no need to bash & smash other members. You can disagree with another member, but do it with the same respect that you would want if you were in his/her shoes.

Welcome to The PE Gym!

this rule applies for both out in the open and in private, ie reps, pm's ..

I'm pretty sure if I made a new account here with no posts and began volunteering my size in various threads where it was not necessary and that size was literally unbelievably big and I had no pictures to back it up, I'd expect somebody to call Bullshit and point out the fact that this is blatant trolling and self promotion. The fact that it was done via Neg Rep is NOT grounds for an infraction, especially when no warning was given and when no rules existed with respect to the negative reputation system, which if anything is a private way of letting somebody you know that you disagree with them, as opposed to insulting them right then and there on the thread, which occurred by other posters not named PESkeptic.

Sometimes its not what you are saying its how you are saying it.
Baiting, bullying, name calling, antagonistic comments will earn you an infraction. Doing it via reps or in pm is viewed as being underhanded...members know that it would get them in trouble if you said it on open forum so they do it on the sly.. bullying and baiting each other has to stop.
Infractions serve as a warning and they will expire, there are different degrees of infractions that can be given.
IF you hit 10 point in infractions you will receive a ban of some type. But you don't have to worry about the infractions if it is a one off mistake because it will expire before you get anywhere near a 10 point infraction ban..

Basically you guys (and yes i mean peskeptic and coltar amongst others) gave us a bunch of feedback over the years about your feelings on how we use to handle and deal with problem members and situations...So we decided to try a new system, that being the infraction system.. The rules have always been there, the infraction system wasn't we use to have a different way of issuing warning and recording them.

I guess we disagree then that calling a troll a liar, or saying liar liar pants on fire, is grounds for adminstrative sanction against a member here. I disagree that it is "bullying or baiting" in any sense of the word and actually trivializes cases where true bullying is occurring, such as when a former member of your staff tells another member to cut off his testicles. Let me repeat: "liar liar pants on fire" to a clear troll is NOT legitimate grounds for you to take any action with no warning provided or clear policy against responding against the trollers. I also resent all implications that I made that comment in some underhanded way. See previous 2,926 posts for evidence that I don't operate that way.

I like the new system. Things seem to be much more fair and consistant than in the past.

You could have said " i personally don't' believe what you are saying" verse "liar, liar pants on fire"
You were given a lesser of the potential infractions. So no its not the same infraction or action that would be taken for a rep comment that said "cut your balls off"

Do you get the difference in the way you say things on the response or action that it might generate.. i believe you do .. i also believe you are being difficult over something that is only as big of an issue as you make it.
You got an infraction, the infraction stands. whether you go on to earn more infractions or this is a one off..that is in your hands.

I've never given or received a negative rep. Why do we even have the feature if it's being abused? Seems silly.

@PESkeptic/TINKERBELL
While I have no place in this conversation I don't see much difference in telling someone you don't believe them VS. Calling them a liar. I don't believe you = You lied = You're a liar. Maybe one is an attack on character, the other is an attack on what they're saying? I don't know.

I would hope that voicing your doubts about someones claims wouldn't justify an infraction. Now calling someone a liar I guess could be considered somewhat derogatory but I think its on the lowest level of "derogatory" terms. "Liar, liar, pants in fire" is more humurous than anything else. Its like " your momma wears combat boots", more banter than a true insult.

"Liar liar pants on fire" can be found in the book, 'Grade School Baiting 101'...it's antagonistic. Saying' you don't believe them' is just stating a fact that you don't believe what they are saying.

So we will get an infraction for saying "Liar liar pants on fire" to someone in this forum?

And whats more fucked up is that your negative reputation requires a comment. Let me clarify this, then...if I had said "I personally disagree with what you are saying" as my reputation comment, would it have been an issue?
