Has more than just a gym it has dancing for my daughter and wife, basketball and a few other sports for my 2 boys swimming for all 3 kids. Cardio for me and the wife, yoga & pilates for the wife. But I want weight lifting and mixed martial arts for myself. My wife is into martial arts as well she is a deputy black belt now in taekwondo. Anyway we are going to get a personal trainer to help us at first and do an assesment and layout a program for us. Ive never done anything like this before so Im excited. I dont feel too far out of shape so im really hoping to have some muscles show through my fat maybe by the end of summer or christmas?

Just a heads up, the conditioning in MMA can really push your limit if you let it. It also depends on what kind of MMA you are into. I'm currently doing Muay Thai, and god my instructor has a killer conditioning routine.

I don't know but the basic idea of MMA is you learn a bit about every fight discipline. Eventually you should choose a discipline where you want to become an expert in .. for example: wrestling, ground fighting, K-1, ..

Those pro-guys are beasts. They don't look very muscular (not what I would expect from someone who's daily training 8 hours), but god they are deadly efficient. Search on youtube for "fedor emilianenko". He's the worlds best. He looks like a fat bald construction worker (with all do respect), you would never guess he's the number one fighter in the world.

There's also an interesting documentary on national geographic about MMA .. It shows some pro's kick and punch at crash test dummies .. Now they do this with "experts" on kicking for example (don't know the exact discipline, K-1 I guess) and then the MMA-fighter. MMA-fighters always had the most power. They can literally kick your liver in one thousand pieces. :p

Cool sport. + to answer your question: I do think it's harder than Taekwondo in the end.

Hey man, congrats! That's absolutely awesome! One thing I've learned in all of my years of weight lifting and taking care of myself is that it will ultimately be more about your diet than your exercise regimen. Good luck with whatever your fitness goals happen to be.

yea, it's mostly diet... My friend just put me on this "intermittent fasting" diet... Working so far but he was right. The first few days you'll want to eat someones face (maybe it wasn't Bath Salts after all??)

I've got a much longer way to go than you do but it could help you cut your body fat down while not losing muscle.

Intermittent fasting for the Win! I've been doing it half-heartedly but usually feel better when I work out without having had eaten yet that day. Have you ever seen the youtube channel twinmuscleworkout? or fastingtwins? or hodgetwins? They do videos on nutrition, intermittent fasting, and working out. 37/8 year old twins ripped to the core after being in pretty bad shape 4 years ago.. not the brightest guys but not dumb either.. definitely potentially a little annoying although I find them quite entertaining.

yea my friend told me about them. He said "They're a bit vulgar, but I find them hilarious" They're alright. He said "They know their sh*t"

so I watched a video or two. I've seen them before but didn't know their history. Definitely trying it out. I've been doing it for 3 days now  . starting to feel "better" though waiting for 2pm is like waiting for Christmas morning LOL! I like it though... I feel like something going to happen if I continue to work out and do something beneficial with my diet. I'm not calorie counting, but since I'm only eating in a small window it's hard to blow through 2000 calories which keeps my intake in check.

3 pounds in 3 days, so far.

I think you'll be fine bro.......as I said above, diet is 90% of the battle right there. If you can conquer that, you're good to go....

never thought of it like that I'll try and shoot for 2000 then. I have never counted calories before but I'll try.

Wel I went for a consultation with a personal trainer and for the most part I was fair to excellent on all the physical tests but the shocker to me was my body fat I wasnt expecting 31%. Hopefully Diet, excercise and weight training will get that down.
