Measuring

Hope i picked the right catagory for this question about measuring. Alright so i've seen many different forms of measuring that people use to keep track of their gains, make goals, etc. I like the method, for example using "6.1, 6.2, 6.3, 6.4, 6.5..." and so forth but when i convert the fractions into decimals it doesn't make sense. For example: 1/4 when converted to decimal it is equal to .2 AND .3 while 3/4 is equal to .7 AND .8 (so say you were 6' 1/4 EL you would be 6.2 and 6.3 at the same time?) Also you could say that if you were 6.25 EL you would be 6.2 and 6.3.

I've just come to the conclusion that using .125, .25, .375, .5, .625, .75, and .875 is easiest but how do you know if what your stats are compare to someone elses?

That's some new math to me. 1/4 will always be .25, never .2 and never .3. 3/4 will always be .75, never .7 and never .8.

Don't worry about comparing your stats to someone else. You have no way to know where they measure, how they measure, when they measure, their EQ, and any other factors that can make a difference. Some people could round up, some round down, some attempt to measure exactly.

In my math classes .25 could never equal .2. But .24 could equal .2. Rounding. It's a new concept they are teaching. Anything number four or less (1,2,3,or 4) you round down. Any number five and up(5,6,7,8,9) You round up. So .125=.1, .25=.3, .375=.4, .5=.5, .625=.6, .75=.8, and .875=.9. Hopefully this clears some up. The alternative is just drop the last numbers. Does a 1/100 or 1/1000 of an inch really matter?

Don't get to excited with making it an exact measurement or comparing yours to another's. Your here for you not to make someone else look bigger or smaller.

Yep

Some people measure multiple times and take the average. Probably round off to just one decimal.

Yep again

1) i got a ruler when i bought my bathmate that goes in incrimates of 1/8th (.125)
2) I take about 5-10 measurements and average em out.

I figure I get a better estimate of my overall progress that way (gains, eq, and positive indicators)

Makes sense, EXCEPT for the fact that .2 and .7 are missing from the bunch. You don't count '1-3-4-5-6-8-9..." do you? I never thought of rounding really because it seemed less accurate. The metric system seems confusing to me... I don't want to use centimeters. So im just gonna keep going with the .125, .25, .75, .5 etc method i suppose.

Im using this, example of one inch in decimal form as it would appear on a ruler:

1 .0625 .125 .1875 .25 .3125 .375 .4375 .5 .5625 .625 .6875 .75 .8175 .875 .9375 2

lol

I used the numbers the OP gave. I just copied them and rounded for him. Of course there is a .2 and a .7. He just didn't ask what they would become.

"'ve just come to the conclusion that using .125, .25, .375, .5, .625, .75, and .875 is easiest but how do you know if what your stats are compare to someone elses?"

This is what I rounded for him. It's not my fault he didn't have one that rounded to .2 or .7.

Now get off my back! just kidding. :)
