I agree. Based on the more credible surveys I think the average erect penis girth is right in that range (4.75-4.9") and the median erect girth is very likely a little less. If so, over half the adult men in the world have a smaller girth.

According to the Lifestyles Condoms survey the girths rank as follows
5.0 EG- 70th percentile
5.25 EG -80 percentile
5.5 EG -91st percentile
6.0 EG+- 99th percentile

If the average erect girth is 4.9722 how would a 5.0 girth rank in the 70 percentile..wouldn't the average girth land closer to the 50th to 60th percentile realistically..does a guy with a 5.0 MSEG really rank higher then 70 percent of the male population?

First, I think that the measured girths in that study were most likely rounded to the nearest quarter inch based on the appearance of this graph: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:penis_circum.svg. That might have introduced some aberration.

Second, the 50th percentile would correspond more closely to the median circumference, which is not necessarily the mean, or average circumference. A preponderance of large girth "outliers" could skew the mean significantly above the median.

The data also shows a very prominent mode at 4.75" with nearly one quarter of the subjects corresponding to that measured girth. If the median circumference is around 4.75", with so many observations clustered around that measurement, the percentiles will also be tightly squeezed together, and with a very modest increase in girth, percentile rank climbs significantly.

Redbear you make a very good point. Most of these size surveys round measurements to the nearest 1/4th inch.Where would you assume a 5.25 girth ranks? Seems like the higher end of average

Actually.... that's about average for girth.

This data is probably about as good as any (from the Ansell Corporation LifeStyles condom survey done in Cancun Mexico): File:penis circum percentile.svg - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In this survey, a circumference of 5.25" appears to be a little above the 80th percentile and 5.5" appears to be at or a little above the 90th percentile. Only about 1% (1.1% to be exact) of men had a recorded erect girth of 6" or more.

The data from the old Alfred Kinsey survey (self-reported) from 1948 has been generally discredited showing an average erect penis length of over 6" since subsequent surveys in which subjects were measured by a second party have all shown average erect lengths of under 6". Interestingly, the girth data from that survey seem to correspond pretty well to subsequent non- self-reported surveys. Maybe back in the 1940s guys didn't consider penis girth to be as significant as length so they didn't feel the need to exaggerate it.

http://wiki.thundersplace.org/wiki/Kinsey_Report_Penis_Size_Results

In the Kinsey survey 19.5% of men reported an erect penis circumference of greater than 5.25", 8% reported an erect penis girth of greater than 5.5", and 5% reported an erect penis girth of 6" or more. Only 1.1% of men reported an erect circumference of more than 6". Taking into account the likelihood that some of those self-reported 6" girths were the result of a bit of "wishful thinking" these percentiles are very close to the Cancun data.

In erect girth polls done on this site it appears that there is an over representation of very large girths here, for whatever reason, with over 17% of respondents claiming a current erect girth of 6" or more. I would not consider that data reflective of real world averages and percentiles as it is so clearly and dramatically out of line with the other data.

According to the Lifestyles Condoms survey the girths rank as follows
5.0 EG- 70th percentile
5.25 EG -80 percentile
5.5 EG -91st percentile
6.0 EG+- 99th percentile
