Insults to gay and bisexual members

It seems ridiculous in this day and age that people should have to be reminded of this, but listen up -- it is NOT ACCEPTABLE to insult gays and bisexuals on these forums! The moderators have just trashed a thread that ended up being full of anti-gay/bisexual innuendo and slurs. Many members stepped up and objected to the language and negative thoughts expressed there, but the point remains that it was disrespectful and depressing for our gay and bisexual member to have to see that sort of thing on these forums in the first place.

My thanks to those of you who stepped in to try to make things better -- and shame on you to those of you who stooped to gay/bisexual bashing. The latter behavior WILL NOT BE TOLERATED here.

Yes, we know that some people feel strongly about sexual orientations, and it is your right to harbor whatever opinions you have -- in private. But here on these forums, we expect everyone to remain civil and respectful to ALL members, regardless of whether or not they are white, black, gay, straight, bisexual, purple, green, or whatever.

Please, please, think before you post. Do not use slurs, do not engage in name-calling, and do not belittle anyone else's lifestyle, preferences, or sexual orientation. We do not need lots of negative vibes here. The PEGym is a place for people to gain support in bettering themselves, not a place for schoolyard bullies.

Let's keep the Gym welcoming to all members, OK?

AMEN to that. Tolerance & respect for all is something that we take very seriously here @ PE Gym. Anyone here who thinks themselves above those principles will quickly find themselves out of here.

Sometimes we can't completely embrace the views or ideas of others, especially when they are diametrically opposed to our own. While you may not appreciate another person's sexual preferences, views, or beliefs, this does not give you the right to 'bash them' or make needless personal attacks.

In spite of our diversity, we can all treat each other with mutual respect, even when we disagree. This is regardless of religious affiliation, race, gender, color, creed, or sexual preference.

This forum has a friendly and positive atmosphere, let's keep it that way

It matters a lot to many of us that the Gym stay a fun place to come to. I hate it when it gets negative here, it makes me feel ill when I start seeing slurs and I start to question why I bother to spend all the time here that I do. I think it is really, really important that we keep the atmosphere positive here.

It just isn't that hard to do! I have to admit with the last few days we've had around here I was thinking of taking a vacation from this place but since no one would miss me I stayed!

It almost had me running for the hills. It wasn't just the one thread, I could see aggression coming out of a small select group of people, At one point mini arguments were erupting on quite a few of the threads i was involved on ...It def had me questioning whether i would stay or go.

Apparently I've really missed some drama in the last week or so, although I've been here almost every day. However the OP is spot on, Batwoman even highlights the right to people's own prejudices in private, but highlighting it in a public forum such as this highlights many individuals' insecurities.
I've seen it a few times where people of a different orientation mention bigger 'members' and all of a sudden the insults come flying. Close to pathetic. Great OP and Vulcan's suggestion is a great one too.
