Well I never said it was your fault. I said it's your responsibility. I don't think people are to blame for victimization, but it is your responsibility that you were there to begin with.

It sounds like you're constantly around areas where trouble can happen and it sounds like you'd rather participate in the violence than avoid it. So, you make a thread called "brutal self defence techniques." I'm not sure if a penis website is properly equipped to help you with that.

I like to go out and hang out with friends in a pub .. Pubs are made to have a drink, relax and enjoy the social experience .. It's not about fighting so I don't see why it would be my responsibility to "get into fights" ..

+ It's just a topic. I've always been interested in fight sports. Not that I'm agressive, but I see of it as a good way to do some cardio and to learn some self defence techniques .. How many famous movie stars etc. participate in boxing lessons .. I see it more as a sport not as a way to learn how to punch an innocent guy's head in.

I see where you're coming from Toad but it's like saying you walk in a church and all of a sudden a guy comes walking in with a baseball bat and starts swinging at everything that moves .. It's always your responsibility in a way then.

The best way to win a fight is to avoid being in one to start with. But in the event that it can not be helped, then brutal techinques must be used. I like to study Bruce Lee's method, and practice them on a punching bag.

Not getting involved in a fight. What a novel idea! Hey has anyone ever given a guy a good shot to the jaw? If you did then you know what happens; your hand breaks. It seems your mandible is much harder and denser than your hand!

I used to box I was taught by a golden gloves participant and soon after he competed started training others at a professional level so I can kinda sorta say I was formally trained in the art of western boxing

I got my ass handed to me by this guy who was a few years older than me and I thought I knew it all until then

He said all he learned about fighting was from books

I decided then to apply what I know of boxing to what I read in martial arts books

there are a few good books

small circle jujitsu
any book on boxing will suffice
dynamic aikido
and the famous book of self defense tao of jeet kune do

although books will never be an equal to a master of any art you can still learn quite a bit by messing around with your friends and doing semi contact sparring

also you may want to pick up a book on kickboxing so you can keep your distance from someone

"it's all about leverage it's all about generating power at the hip it's about pulling your opponents limbs in a direction they won't go and applying pressure in the opposite direction you are pulling or pushing against to snap joints"

hope that helps most of these would only be used in a competition fight and furthermore you should do what everyone else is saying cause a street fight is completely different ball game although some of what you learn from these books can be applied but the fight will be so fast paced with no ground rules

it certainly does matter where you hit them in the jaw though and also how tough your bones and sinews are you'd be better off using an iron palm to break there jaw instead of a closed fist

it's a silly looking image but you know it gets the point across the iron palm is the bottom arm or hand in the picture and it's the bottom part of your hand under the ring finger and pinky it's the boniest hardest part of your hand

Naw dude you cant learn martial arts through books, that's a bad idea. They have to be learned through senses so that they become second nature. They need to be ingrained into your senses so that they can be effective. Takes time to have them become useful. Train Train Train

Small edit you can learn them through books but you cannot apply them in actual fight because as you stated its to fast paced without hands on training. I can apply any of the three disciplines I've learned in a split second because I've trained at them for years.

This one time in elementary school I punched a guy using that technique .. I thought a fist punch would be to harsh back then .. Let me tell you: that was the last time that guy bullied me.

It was my first and only punch I ever gave to someone .. He went sitting on a bench in a corner ..

God I was such a badass in elementary school!

Also check out Krav Maga

That's been my choice. Just make sure to do your homework on the instructor and school, as there's a lot of variations in what's taught. Many of them only teach a few limited techniques, primarily intended for women to defend themselves, and focus on defending only the most common attacks. Some even refuse to teach techniques that cause significant harm to the attacker, which I think is BS. If you're fighting for your life, or the life of your family, nothing should be off limits.

I have to agree and disagree at the same time

I learned many martial arts through books, but reading alone will not teach you crap you have to do as you said and train train train

apply what you learn from books into your training and you will succeed although learning and training from books is in no way as good as learning from a qualified instructor, but you should be able to learn and do quite a bit from learning and training through books

it does matter quite a bit how much you can pick up from books based on your natural skill, you acquire more skill through training and some skills are only acquired by passing down certain techniques from master to student

if you have a higher natural skill you will indeed acquire it much easier
