I avoid korean ginseng as it is central nervous system stimulating & can make me feel anxious. Some people don't have any negative effect. American ginseng is the opposite (cns suppressing)and it is very good for times of stress. Probably korean will be fine for vast majority of people.

That's fine then, it can increase blood pressure (I'm almost positive, haven't looked at Ginseng in ages though), so can cause problems for some. You'll be fine though.

Pad, you are correct. It can increase blood pressure(and insomnia actually), but generally only when you exceed the recommended dosage or consuming caffeine as well. Also, you shouldn't take for more than 6 weeks.

* I think ginseng is an awesome herb. It's an adaptogenic that in young healthy people, it has a stimulating effect, but if you're older or weakened, it acts like a sedative and restorer. Chinese version of course.

Anyway, great for short term use, but I wouldn't recommend using it as a daily supplement, but that's just me :)

I take just this <spam url removed> but it has really helped me a lot! Felt the difference even on day 1! I think it's because it balances the neurotransmitters nicely.

I like ginseng.
Like others have said, it is an adaptogenic. This means it helps your body restore homeostasis.

Ex: if you have too much energy and it's late at night, it can help calm you down and tire you out, and if you are fatigued and it's early in the morning and you need to get up, it can help you feel more energized.
This is based on taking it daily. If you take it close to bedtime, you might actually have trouble sleeping.

It is suggested you take it for about 6 weeks then take 1-2 weeks off before restarting.

I've read also that if you have diabetes or high/low blood pressure, it can play with these levels so it is best to consult your doc.

Since it is an adaptogenic and helps maintain homeostasis, I have found it to work well with keeping stress down.
Things that used to bother me a great deal, don't seem to be much to me anymore. It's awesome.

It is also suggested that taking ginseng can improve physical endurance and strength at levels around at least 2 grams a day of the root cut or powder. Although I haven't really noticed much of a difference when I work out or go jogging.

I definitely suggest studying into it first because there certainly are interactions with drugs and health conditions.

^ Yup, i have bi polar disorder and have to be careful with korean ginseng as it could cause a manic episode. Took it by accident in a multi vitamin for a few weeks and noticed the negative effect.

I only took one pill of ginseng so far :p bit scared now .. You can never be sure that it will be healthy or not for you ..

The multivitamin, omega 3's, whey protein, gingko biloba can be taken daily? I'm thinking about adding a Vitamin D pill .. Red a lot of awesome stuff about vitamin D .. I also believe sun light increases vitamin D in the body .. Well, here in Belgium it's almost always raining .. If we have a good summer it's like 2-3 months of sun ..

Afraid of ginseng? I have bought dried roots and make tea by myself. Well it seems Im too healthy cuz it doesnt make difference.

And the needed daily intake of vitamin D created by body is only achieved almost nude in the sun for 2h.

True. The easiest source of D is the one with fish oil. Its also good to take calcium and magnesium.

Koh, panax ginseng is just the Latin name given for ginseng....the one native to China, Russia, and North Korea.

I've also read that ginseng slows blood clotting, so if you bleed for any reason, you may end up bleeding longer.

....I don't know if this applies to all ginsengs.
