The current events in the US are being viewed with great alarm in some quarters . Particularly the direction the US seems to be taking ..

Hm so current events would include The later part of Trump and current court decesions etc .
The religous right in the US has a wide ranging agenda which would require a long disertation ,a small example though.

Thomas listed three targets: Griswold vs Connecticut, which established a right to contraception in 1965; Lawrence vs Texas, which clarified the right to sexual intercourse with a person of the same sex in 2003; and Obergefell vs Hodges, the 2015 ruling that guaranteed access to same-sex marriage. “We have a duty to ‘correct the error’ established in those precedents,” Thomas said.

From the office of the pm
Quote
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese visited Kyiv yesterday, where he met with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and expressed Australia’s support for the brave people of Ukraine and the incredible defence of their homeland.

During the visit Prime Minister Albanese saw first-hand some of the devastation caused by Russia’s illegal invasion of Ukraine.

Following President Zelenskyy’s request for further support, Australia will provide the following new package of assistance to Ukraine:

  • A$99.5 million in military assistance, including 14 armoured personnel carriers, 20 Bushmaster protected mobility vehicles and other military equipment supplied by Australia’s defence industry, and a contribution to NATO’s Ukraine Comprehensive Assistance Package Trust Fund. This brings Australia’s total military assistance to Ukraine to approximately A$388 million.
  • A$8.7 million (US$6 million) to assist Ukraine’s Border Guard Service to upgrade border management equipment, improve cyber security and enhance border operations in the field.
  • Duty free access for Ukrainian imports to Australia, complementing similar trade measures taken by our partners, including the UK and the EU.
  • Australia will intervene at the International Court of Justice in support of Ukraine in its case against Russia.
  • Targeted financial sanctions and travel bans on 16 additional Russian ministers and oligarchs.
  • Australia will prohibit imports of Russian gold to reduce Russia’s ability to fund its war, joining with partners, including Canada, Japan, the United Kingdom and United States.
Australia is the largest non-NATO contributor to Ukraine in the defence of their homeland.

Do you know what correct the error means?

Thomas wants to reverse (correct the error) in the opinions that allows the use of contraceptions, allows same sex intercourse, and allows same sex marriage.

The Roe vs Wade decision was not based on a good legal foundation. Justice Ginsberg mentioned that more than once and wrote about it in her book which you should read. The Court at that time used shaky legal arguments to enact a social agenda. She well knew it would not stand a challenge and she was right.

From all I have read and know the conservative justices think that using the Court for social agendas is wrong. They also seem to believe that judgements should and must have a firm foundation in the Constitution. If the laws were built upon solid legal foundations they will not be changed but if not then they should and must be changed.

Cusp it is simple enough; if US is moving away from the west that is regarded with alarm in the west. All this to and fro attempting to justify it is of no interest to the rest of the world .

The US moves the way the US wants to move. To coin a phrase from an old friend the US couldn't give a rats ass about what the world thinks. We can do fine wthout them; it's they that need us.

Produce prices will remain high, with the full impact of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and Covid disruptions in China still to be felt. Photograph: redbrickstock.com/Alamy

Australia is set for its third bumper season of crops in a row, but the increased production will probably bring little relief at the cash register as rising global demand pushes prices skyward.
Australian farmers will plant an area almost the size of England this winter as they try to take advantage of soaring global food prices and a third year of good rains.

The quality of production, though, may be hit by waterlogged fields and reduced fertiliser use as those costs surge, according to Rabobank. Local manufacturers, too, say they’re under strain as raw material and other prices climb and not all of the increases can be passed on.
This winter, farmers will plant a record 23.83m hectares, up 1% on last year, and just shy of England’s 24.36m total area, the bank said in its Winter Crop Outlook. That tally is also 11% more than the five-year average, with wheat plantings up 1.4% and canola, an oilseed, up by 20.9%. Plantings of barley, oats and pulses have dropped.

Then that will be a great thing for Australia! Personally I'm tired of hearing about supply chain issues, covid and Russia.

Unfortunately it is likely to be ongoing for some time .
The lpg thing for instance is very interesting Aussie may well be the world leading exporter . Problem is companies are exporting so much it is leaving locals short except in Western Australia where they mandate 15% goes to the locals.

There seems a disconect between what should be the national interest and what people are feeling on the ground.

In other words, people have been quitting and, in some sectors and jobs, they haven’t been coming back. Perhaps it’s unsurprising, given the poor conditions in many workplaces throughout the pandemic. The dearth of workers is most evident in hospitality and service-work industries, where positions for dishwashers, truck drivers, retail workers, food servers, airport agents, home health aides and similar roles have been open for literal years.

This is not because people don’t want to work, say the experts. They just want better jobs; higher pay, improved conditions. The job market upheaval caused by the pandemic has enabled some workers to switch into better employment – and if hard-hit sectors want their workers back, they need to find ways of making their jobs more attractive.

I see the Murdochs have sued a publishing minnow called Crickey which basically said they acted like scumin their reporting in the later days of Trump presidency .
I see they have done it in an aussie court where there is far less protection for publishing than in the US . It is for course very David Vs Goliath .
The case opened with high price lawyer for M saying this.

Crikey is seeking to rely in part on a new public interest defence that has not yet been tested in Australia in the context of a full trial.

Aussie has been saying for some time it is the largest non Nato contributor to Ukraine . However this has become hard to verify and so a change to one of the largest .
In any case support continues despite the change of government.

There are no standards in publishing anymore. You can say whatever you like and no consequences.

Well Fox news got called out big time by a minnow no one has heard of for poor publishing standards . Now they (and their billions )are sueing said minnow . Like I said they are doing it in an Aussie court rather than a US one as they think they will be more likely to win here .
